The Nation

CHONBURI: -- A retired police officer died of smoke inhalation when a fire broke out at his house in Chon Buri’s Mueang district late Monday night, police said.

Samed Police Station was alerted about the fire at 10.15pm and firefighters took about 20 minutes to put it out.

Retired Pol Lieutenant Chanawat Nuamfuang, 61, was found unconscious inside the toilet on the home’s second floor.

Rescuers resuscitated him and sent him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His wife, Napaporn Nuamfuang, 62, said she was driving to Bangkok when she called her husband on the way.

He did not answer the call and she returned home to find the house on fire.
