BANGKOK: -- A fire engulfed three shophouses in Bangkok’s Lat Krabang district early Monday morning, police said.

No deaths and injuries were reported in the fire that started at about 3am at the four-storey shophouses near the mouth of Soi Romklao 21/1 in Klongsam Prawes subdistrict.

Ten fire engines took over two hours to control the blaze.

The blaze caused the roof of a construction material and paint shop, where the fire started, to collapse.

Police said the fire started on the ground floor of the Sipinyo building material shop which had a lot of paint and paint thinner solution in stock.

The paint and thinner solution caused the fire to quickly spread to the upper floors and to the two shops next to it.

Wanwisa Pinyonawawanit, 30, the owner of the building material shop, said she heard her mother shouting that there was a fire so she and six other people in the house rushed out. None of them were injured.

Police were still investigating the cause of the blaze.
