Masseuses say Jomtien club has boosted business

The majority of masseuses on Jomtien Beach are happy they united as a club, saying it ensures better service for customers and less problems for themselves.

Last year the massage workers formed the Jomtien Beach Thai Massage Club to comply with Pattaya regulations and self-police the previously free-wheeling sector. Now on each zone on Jomtien, masseuses wear colored shirts and number to give confidence to tourists that their services are legitimate.

The club holds monthly meetings to advise members on new rules and discuss problems encountered or discovered. Standard rates of 300 baht an hour are charged and members caught overcharging, stealing from customers or using drugs are suspended or expelled.

Mai Wongin, a club board member, said that since establishment of the club, members can garner more trust from tourists. In the past, masseuses must walk around to find customers.

Considering you can get a Thai massage in an air conditioned shop for between 100 and 200 baht in Pattaya this seems a tad expensive?

yes but when sand gets mixed in with the oil the subsequent body scrub is thrown in for free

Are these people for real, I mean, honestly? Such stuff goes viral and who, not knowing the sleazy/wheely way of Thais and their "organizations, clubs, working groups etc." will seriously wonder, what kind of operation must be going on there in far-away-land's Jomtien beach?

All this is to protect third parties, be it Thais or not, from crooks, thieves and badboys in Thailand. While Thais can (mostly) handle their local yocal clowns, it is quite apparent, that foreigners - believing in Father Christmas - from the moment they leave the arrival hall after having collected their baggage. Pathetic - but you would have to invoke a change of heart and mind among all those opportunity chancers; latter in the game of skinning visitors alive.

A lot has changed over the last 40 years being in Thailand and not everything to the better - trust me on that.

The customer wants it on the beach. Pretty hard on the body of the service provider, expending energy in the heat...

Higher price justified.
