Woman killed in Bangkok shophouse fire

By The Nation

Fire raged through two shophouses in Bangkok’s Bang Kae district early on Saturday, killing a woman, police said.

Pol Lt-Colonel Thatthep Rongnak, an inspector at Lak Song Police Station, said the fire damaged two shophouses in the Setthakij housing estate on Phetchakasem Soi 102/2 at around 4.45am.

Ten fire engines took about 20 minutes to control the blaze.

The fire damaged a coffee shop and a shoe shop but investigators are yet to find the cause of the fire, Thatthep said.

He said a charred body was found inside the coffee shop. The body has yet to be identified but witnesses said a woman stayed at the coffee shop at night.

The body was sent for victim identification to Siriraj Hospital.
