The engineer who supervised the Red Line Skytrain construction site in Bangkok where three workers were killed, will surrender to police on Tuesday, deputy national police spokesman Pol Colonel Krissana Pattanacharoen said on Monday.

Rattakorn Jitsripitaklert, 40, has contacted police and told them that he would present himself at 10am to hear the charge of negligence leading to the fatal accident, he said.

Police are still investigating to determine if others were responsible for the accident and continuing to inspect the scene to prepare a report to submit to court, Krissana said.

He said that, if necessary, executive of Italian-Thai Development PCL might be summoned to provide information.

On Sunday afternoon, Metropolitan police chief Pol Lt-General Sanit Mahathavorn said arrest warrants for three suspects had been issued, including Rattakorn, crane controller Pornchai Buaprathumma, 37, and assistant engineer Boonseub Phankham, 48.

Pornchai and Boonseub had already been arrested and interrogated, before being released on bail, Sanit said.

All three suspects are accused of negligence leading to the accident that killed three workers on April 28 on Kham Phaeng Phetch 6 Road near Wat Don Muang School.

May the deceased RIP and their families be adequately compensated.  While many blame lack of workplace safety in Thailand, we too have unforeseen tragedies like this happen in the highly developed and highly regulated country of Canada where I live (same for USA).

I wonder what happens now about the structure that fell.  Was it damaged?  Will construction be halted while a replacement is procured?  Perhaps just lift it back up and the show goes on.

The first thing to check would be their qualifications, i.e. where when and how they obtained them,a Bachelors degree in what?  How much did that cost?I employed a girl once with a Bachelors in Accounting, she couldn't even run a simple spreadsheet, she did steal enough for the deposit on 5 motorbikes she was going to rent out though...
