Open a bottle of corked wine with a shoe

Recommended Posts

After a fiasco a few days ago, when I 'redecorated' my hotel room and bed sheets with red wine, after struggling to open the corked bottle,  I was encouraged by the videos of people opening bottles of corked wine with only the aid of a shoe and a wall.

So I tried the same thing this evening.

You can watch my YouTube video clip to see how I got on:

Simon...

The fact you are creating videos about banging a shoe against a wall in your hotel room would suggest to me that you are well overdue to find a new girlfriend.

There is acceptable banging and there is I am a bit crazy after being alone to long banging.

You're a smart guy, I will leave you to figure out which is which.

LoL, if you check on the other forum, there's a recent post about me trying to open a bottle of corked wine without a corkscrew.  It all ended in tears...

Someone pointed me to a YT video that showed a guy opening a bottle of wine by using a shoe.  So I thought I'd try the same method.

Don't worry - I'm not going crazy :)  I might make some more videos about living in Naypyidaw.

As for a new GF, I have no plans for that.  In any case, there is no way that the police/military here would let me entertain a woman in my hotel room or shack up with her - this is a military city and the only banging that I'm allowed is with my bottle of Merlot, (which tastes very nice BTW).

I don't speak to bar-girls like that (I speak fluent Thai)

Take off your sock.  Use that to filter out  the broken glass after clanging the top off the bottle with the steel toe-capped boot that you removed to take off the sock.  This has been done to death in a previous thread with RedFx.  I can't believe you people don't check the archives

LoL, another whinging expat...

The video clip is not about using a steel-tapped boot and sock. It is about using a shoe.

It is not a 'how to' video.  It is what I'm doing after watching another YT video that purports to show that you can easily open a bottle of wine with a shoe.

Did you get out the wrong side of bed today?

Not sure it is healthy drinking alone either...regardless of the quality of your wine...

I drink 1 glass of red wine every evening because there is reasonably good medical evidence that it is good for your heart.  I don't drink any other alcohol.

Now, as to whether drinking alone is healthy, that's another issue.  Naypyidaw can be a difficult place to socialise, due to the lack of expats, lack of entertainment facilities, lack of group sports facilities, police concerns about locals fraternising with foreigners etc.

The Hilton Hotel in town apparently had 3 guests during the water festival.... (my hotel had only me).

But I knew this when I took my current job and I can honestly say that staying in Naypyidaw, away from my ex-wives and dysfunctional family members and 'problems' in Phuket, my stress levels are non-existant.  I'm VERY happy with my job, social life, exercise and diet regime, bank balance.....

Just need to add a corkscrew to my next shopping list :)

I actually enjoyed the video Simon  (until you took your shirt off) and have previously seen the shoe and wine bottle thing and wondered if it would work. Champagne maybe but then you would lose the contents. Opening a bottle of hot Chang with a cigarette lighter is more my thing.

Edit..

Well of course you are content...you are living the high life there.  How many Burmese have a pair of shoes, a steel tipped umbrella, and a bottle of merlot in their room...

I am sure it is much more relaxing now that you don't have the mafia trying to kill you in Phuket.
