BANGKOK: -- Thailand woke up today to yet more sickening violence by a mob of Thai men caught on tape.

Online footage broadcast on national television showed a group of around a dozen young people assaulting an old woman in Minburi in northern Bangkok.

The woman was repeated punched and kicked in the frenzied attack. Even when she falls to the ground the mob relentlessly attacks her.

Calls from bystanders to stop the assault are ignored, reported .

After shouts made by some in the group it is believed that the gang may be loan shark debt collectors. Daily News said they believed they were handing out the beating after a 20% loan was not repaid.

Police confirmed that the incident happened on Saturday in the Sunintawong area of Minburi.

The victim filed a complaint and police are waiting on medical reports of her injuries before arresting those responsible. The victim was expected to come with the report to the police station at 10am this morning.

Minburi police told Daily News that they know who the attackers are.

They could not confirm yet that the incident arose from the non-payment of loan debts.

Just a moment ago I was reading a posting about vicious pit bull attacks. These were the 4-legged variety, and need to be wiped off the face of the earth.

Analogies, anyone?

Police are waiting for a medical report, before arresting those responsible.

No money in it for them.

"Minburi police told Daily News that they know who the attackers are."

Exactly!!!

One thing I'll never understand here.....why does the victim have to do the job of the police?

"The victim was expected to come with the report to the police station at 10am this morning."

Why can't the police visit the victim as in civilized countries?

We are just giving the offenders enough time to dissapear !

Total Disgrace !

Thainess at it's best.

Explain please. Cos every Thai I know are/would be as sickened by this attack as anyone else. Or, are you just using this sickening attack to bash Thais, kind of low, don't you think?

You can guarantee loan sharks and the police have a working relationship on a local level. The police may well be on or in control of the loan shark's enforcement team but probably not this one. This crew looks to be amateur.

This is why the police are reluctant to do anything. They would be hitting their own income stream.

Loan sharks are very often also part of the local political power clique.

Where I'm from, the suspects would have their doors kicked in by a squad of arresting officers before dawn..... but hey, this is Thailand..... what was I thinking?

Disgraceful but it is noted that assurances from the good General that loan-sharking is under control appear to be premature.

BTW, the punt in the orange shirt should have his testicles removed . Repulsive creature.

Getting into debt with gangsters is maybe the dumbest thing you can do, especially if you can't pay.

12 to one, when the one is an old lady seems about right,

see the police are moving swiftly to arrest those responsible:saai:

waiting for medical reports !any excuse ,not to do their job.

regards worgeordie

Can someone please compile some footage of all these lowlife acts done by thais and put the montage on youtube with the heading AMAZING THAILAND.

They won't learn till people just stop coming in protest.

Loan sharks in Thailand are protected, they make monthly payments. Nothing will happen.

These incidents seem to be increasing and more widespread.  That or more reported and caught on camera.

As a foreigner, it makes me concerned about the future of Thailand.

There seems to be no efforts to prosecute and criminalize violence.

Instead the authorities are harassing food vendors, tourists, and peaceful poor people.

Please know who they are but taking their time....hmmm. Seen this before.

Hope she makes a full recovery!

Maybe she will not want to leave this place.  Where will you both go?  This kind of things sadly happens all over the world, and here are a lot worse countries for violence than here... just look at what happens in some parts of America these days!

Ah, the thankless job of a full time Thai apologist. Don't you even have the decency to condemn what happened here?

I dont understand why then need to wait for a report fro the hospital  If they know who they are just go and arrest them  Its really that simple

This is one of many reasons Thai people do not trust the police

There are others such as the  Red  Bull guy too but that is for anothe subject

Remember every village has a loan shark, and an underground lottery! This has been a way of life for years.

You're right, but look at who runs the cities that most of this thing happens in.
