Minix to update X8-H Plus to Android 5.1.1

Posted this before but it seems the thread vaporised when one of the mods was trying to edit the title for me.

Anyways, Minix are updating the X8-H Plus (only, AFAIK) to Android 5.1.1 which will allow users of those boxes to upgrade to Kodi 17.  The firmware is in beta at the moment.  Minix had got quite a lot of flak on their forums for not updating the device to Lollipop and I'm not sure I'd have looked at another Minix box, given the price premiums for them, if it looked like they were going to not update the firmware, especially given that Minix support is often given as the justification for the higher prices for them.

The X8-H Plus got rave reviews across numerous review sites so it's good to see that users wanting Kodi 17 (plus the new FW features including the Metro launcer and A3 Air Mouse support) will be able to use their boxes for a while longer yet.  Details here:

Not sure that Kodi 17.3 will operate on Android 5.1.1 now because of all the security changes required after the subtitle fiasco with 17.1 and 17.2. Try it and let us know, I would be interested to find out. Think you might be looking at a minimum of android 6.1.

I have Kodi 17.3 running OK on Android 5.1.1.

Easy enough to check Kodi system requirements on the Kodi 17 Wiki. Incremental updates would not normally require a new Android version and if it did it'd be updated there.
