Flood waters still wreaking havoc despite less rain

 

 

UTHAI THANI, 2 June 2017 (NNT) - The Meteorological Department has reiterated rains across the country will lessen over the weekend but flooding from previous showers are still affecting some areas. 

Officials in Uthai Thani province have had to join with the military to provide assistance in Lan Sak district after forest runoff severed a long stretch of road. Residents have been forced to walk through the waters as vehicles can no longer use the stretch. The road itself was only a temporary installation following a similar situation in October of last year. It is expected repairs will be complete in 3 days. 

Flooding has also impacted rice farms in the province, many of which are in the sprouting phase of the crop cycle. Farmers have employed the use of pumps to try to save their crops. 

In Bangkok, Governor Pol Gen Assawin Kwanmuang has tasked each district with promoting the “No Waste, No Flood” message to encourage citizens not to litter as the garbage obstructs drainage. The campaign comes alongside a new effort to collect large pieces of garbage every Sunday. 

Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is also expediting the construction of the Bang Sue tunnel to complete it within July this year in an effort to prevent flooding in the capital city.

If they had done the job properly last year, it wouldn't have collapsed this year.  This "Mai bpen rai" attitude will be Thailand's downfall.  About time they took life seriously, and gave the population a better chance of survival.

Meteorological Department spokesman Khing Kuing Kanute said he would stop the rains from flooding.

There are towns all over the uk and europe that suffer flood damage very year man.

But its only a problem in thailand for some

Yes, but in the UK and Europe, they are repaired a lot quicker than here, sometimes in the same day/week.
