Router Replacement

Featured Replies

I am looking for a new router. I currently have a 5 year old D-Link router and the speed and coverage are poor. Speed and coverage are the two primary considerations in choosing a new router. Asus gets some of the best reviews for routers available in Thailand, and I have been looking at the ASUS RT-AC1200G+ and the ASUS RT-AC55UHP, which are just about the same price (B3500). I have also been looking at the ASUS RT-AC68U, which is about twice the price (B6,300). My internet provider recommends TP Link, and the AC1750 Archer C7 looks good (comparable to the Asus AC1200G+ and 55UHP). But the internet reviewers caution to be sure to get the C7 version 2 or version 3 (the version 1 sucks), and I can see no indication of the version for the C7 being offered. So, can anyone provide useful information on these routers (or others) -- as between the 200G+ and the 55UHP, which is better? is the 68U worth the extra money (this is really one of the primary questions I have; many recommendations for the 68U, is it sufficiently better than the 55UHP to justify the added cost; happy to pay more if it is worth it)?; is the Archer C7 a better choice than the 55UHP?; should I be considering other makes/models in the same price range? My house is 2 floors about 400 sqm, and I would like the router to give good coverage throughout the house. There are frequently 5+ devices connected to the wifi at a time. Thanks for any helpful advice/suggestions/recommendations.

I've got the C7 v2 and am pretty happy with it.

Rule of thumb for me is to avoid D-Link as I've always found their products to be poor.

I had the TP-Link Archer AC750 and was very pleased with it.  Unfortunately, when True upgraded my ADSL line to a VDSL, I had to switch to their Humax. No complaints about it, actually.

The 5ghz range was better on the Dlink.

Thanks. Is there any way from features on the C7 to distinguish the v2/3 from the v1, such as number of USB 2.0/3.0 ports, etc. ? Lazada has the C7 for B3550, but there is no indication of "version" on the site description/ad for the C7. I may need to go to Fortune Town in BKK to check further if I opt for the C7.

I have a number of D-Link devices. I bought them all together because I thought they would integrate together easier. All I can say for sure is that I will NEVER buy another D-Link product.

I bought a v2 a couple of years ago, I doubt you'd be able find a v1 if you tried.

I finally settled for the TP-Link AC 1750 Archer C7, which came today from Lazada. The box says it is version 2.1, so I think I am ok. The internet reviews compare the TP-Link Archer C7 to the more expensive Asus AC 66U, and rate them about the same. So, I figured I was getting a better (faster) router with the Archer C7 with all other features about the same. Hopefully, the range with the C7 will be as good as the AC55UHP. The 5 year Asus warranty was a plus over the 1 year TP-Link warranty, but not enough of a difference to get the Asus. The set up on YouTube looks pretty straight forward, but you need a code from the internet provider, so I have an appointment for the cable guy to come in the morning to install it. Thanks for the advice.
