Morning all,

A small foreign/Thai run bar near me just recently installed a cctv camera outside, (right above where we sit), to watch the property at night - good idea.

BUT

Turns out that the camera has audio too, and the landlord has been listening in to the customers conversations - and even quoting them back to them !

I think it is a total invasion of privacy, (as do many of his now ex-customers), and possibly even illegal, (he monitors it on his mobile phone as he is often out of the province).

What do you guys think ?

Would worry his bar wont be open long without customers.

Just had a thought put mr kannot outside hed bore him to death in an hr.:cheesy:

Complete and utter nut job. Quoting conversations and admitting he is listening in?

Missing eastenders or coronation st.

Privacy in Thailand is not what it is in the west. Have you noticed the way locals like to tilt their heads and look over your shoulder at whatever you're doing on your phone? Or how about the way they sit in front of their homes and discuss who is coming and going from the farangs room?

Why?

The possibilities are endless.  For starters, you're doing his 21 year old daughter up the deaf and dumb with three of your friends and she's most definitely up for it.

I'd prank him.  Prep with a friend beforehand and have a conversation pretending you're contracting for the owner's murder (or maybe something a little less extreme, like robbing his bar, burning it down, or <deleted>-ing his wife).  Fun for all.  Of course, eventually you tell him it was all a prank and laugh in his face.

Not surprising. Someone has to start it in Pattaya. We live in the age of surveillance and control. Was told that London is covered with CCTV cameras, monitoring every move of everybody 24/7. To fight terrorism of course.

Works great so far, isen't it?
Cheers.

The CCTV part is OK, it is the monitoring of conversations that is troubling.

It is covered problem is technology is fantastic but humans still have to monitor thousands of camera's. No camera in the world is going to stop  or realize that  a car or van is suddenly going to mount a pavment and kill inocent pedestrians. But i suspect once the initial incident has occurred the cameras and operators would be immediately on the case tracking.
