Recent data about the profitability of Asia Pacific airlines reveals that the region’s carriers make less than USD5 (THB170) profit per ticket.

According to industry travel publication Travel Daily Media, analyzing data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the actual average profit per ticket is anticipated to be just USD4.44 (THB151).

They didn’t always make so little per passenger, but due to falling net profits, the rate made on each ticket has also dropped.

For Thailand domestic flights not much of a surprise.

Some routes under 1000 Baht all inclusive.

How much profit can they make from that?

Reading the news about various airlines from all over the world, I think the customers are readied for a worldwide hefty price raise.

I would believe this with Thai airways as they are so top heavy and with enormous overheads .....

One of the main reasons I'm wary of flying with them.  Would they skimp on maintenance?  Use second hand parts?

This is not entirely true. After a heavy drop in fuel prices and big saving in that respect IATA announced in 2014 that airfare will come down middle of 2015. Airfares since then have increased rapidly and many airlines have shown decent profit as most have pegged their fuel cost.

I was given dividends from IAG owners of Co BA despite weak pound.

Most carriers make their money from international and long haul routes not domestic as some think.

It is time the fare are brought down.

I may add that BOSSES in Asia are making more money than their respective airlines?

Bangkok airlines Phuket- Bangkok 2,900 return. cant be much profit

This is not true.Fares change every hour and not all flights have the same fare.Only few seats are sold at an attractive price but not all seats.

VietJet is currently doing Phuket-Chiang Rai for 401 THB.

Last month they were doing Bangkok(or Phuket) to Hanoi for 106 THB.

99% of airlines are winning if they make any profit at all. Many airlines would be popping champagne corks if they could guarantee they made $5 profit per passenger carried. Airline losses can be enormous and happen fast. Look at Qatar Airways position now, it happened in an instant.

Then quit giving the over the top bonuses to the CEOs and their cronies.

Is that their real profit, or what they're paying taxes on?
