File photo: “At this point, we don’t want [politicians] to do anything – just stay in your place,” Gen Prawit Wongsuwan said.

BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan on Monday insisted that the prohibition against political gatherings must remain in place for now.

He made the comment after about 50 former members of Parliament met at a Bangkok hotel on Saturday night.

The meeting was in itself not a worry, said the minister in charge of national security, but such gatherings are still forbidden.

“At this point, we don’t want [politicians] to do anything – just stay in your place,” Prawit said, adding that citizens cannot meet to discuss political reforms either.

“The junta asked you the questions, so you can help answer them,” he said, referring to four questions posed by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha regarding the next election.

“But you cannot hold any activities to raise any suggestions [about the answers],” Prawit said.

Does he not see just how insane that all sounds?

Meeting in a Bangkik hotel!

How very unambitious.
.At the very least they could have had a trip away - to, I don't know, Hawaii perhaps?

Chiding seems a fashionable pastime these days amongst the ever so elderly childlike senior military officers who, from recent health reports, seem to be gasping their last breath.

They should have planned a bus trip to Mae Hon Song. Now that would be fun and entertaining, but not Bangkok.

Did he learn this from gov. officials, police, and metropolitan administration?

Mostly deal with rather logical, rational, fair minded Thais.  When you read this sort of dribble, you really see the inbred thinking of the privileged Thai.    Been told never to deal with the entitled directly but rather through sober minded intermediaries.  The country is stifled and will not progress under this sort of poor leadership

Is this the meeting between the Dem and PDRC?

I have read the Nation's piece and it doesn't actually mention any political party.

However I suspect that they mean the TRT as there was a piece in the other paper about a squabble going on in the TRT as to who should replace Yingluck as party leader. The party leader seems to be the person to be nominated as PM should that party win an election.

I think that whoever replaces her as party leader should take out an insurance policy against being pushed under a bus ( metaphorically speaking).

That's a serious turning point.  What if they were having a private party?  Next time rent a house in the woods with security, and have a party.  Yes, or in another country
