Savanakhet on motocycle

Featured Replies

I need to go to Savanakhet for a visa. What is the most convinient border-crossing to go to Savanakhet on motocycle (300ccm)? I also need to get a Laos visa on arrial at that crossing.

PS: I already found that famous GTrider link, but it didn't help me much. Personal experiences from past months most welcome!

You can't cross Mukdahan bridge on motocycle? Otherwise I wouldn't ask.

Try this there are other land border crossings what wrong with going Nong khai.

Thanks for the link.

Going to Savanakhet through Mukdahan would be 2 hours trip. Going there through Nong Khai would be 12 hours trip. Unfortunately motocycles can't go through Mukdahan. That's why I'm asking, if there's any more convinient border-crossing than Nong Khai.

Have done the crossing by Pakse several times.

I have seen bikes come across the bridge in mukdahan.

I believe 'bikes can come across ' in Mukdahan but only exit Laos to Thailand and not exit Thailand into Laos.

Maybe park up your bike in Mukdahan in some secure place for the 2 days and get the bus across to Savannakhet B50 ,each way .Staya at the Newish Avalon Hotel ,only 10 minutes walk to the Thai Consulate .
