Mens dress sense

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

I read recently about mens dress apparel and especially physical presentation for the guys over the age of 50 years who are still thinking they are "up for it "

Biggest downfalls are in descending order are ,

1/ Wearing socks with sandals  ,    never gave it a thought cos I want to keep my toes clean and stop the mozzies biting them plus they ain't so nice as they used to be

2/ Wearing your shirt inside of your trousers or shorts  ,       well I am guilty again cos my shirt slightly relaxed over the belt line can conceal my beer gut  ( that's what my mirror tells me )

3/ Men with a pear shape or beer gut should not wear a shirt with a hoop or horizontal lines design as it accentuates the size of the stomach . Instead should wear vertical stripes or plain colours . That's most of my wardrobe gone .

4/   If you still have hair do not apply "Just For Men " to change the colour to black ,  apparently stands out a mile that it's dyed  , better to have natural grey and good haircut but if you have no hair be especially careful if wearing a wig , ask your closest friends for their opinion , not the rugman . ( I have seen some wonderful examples of dodgy syrups being worn with unqualified confidence  ) . Being bald is all the rage nowadays so nothing to fear . Ex boss of mine wore expensive wigs and was a male model for the wig maker , however my boss emigrated to Oz and sent me pics of himself in his new surroundings without the wig  and he looked really good . What a waste of money on vanity .

5/ Nasal and ear hair if not kept in trim can be a dead give away to your age , despite the fact that you conform to all of the above .

All above a bit tongue in cheek but I am sure you can relate to some of the points and maybe add a few .

1. Totally agree. No hang-up about letting my socks show. I always wear socks.
2. I always wear shirt tail out except for special occasions.
3. I don't like stripes or hoops.
4. My hair is always neat and trim, natural color. If it goes thinner or even further, it will always be neat and trim. Natural color with whatever I have left.
5. Same, always neat and trim.
6. Addition - I'm always clean shaven.

You forgot the conflicting direction of stripes - or wearing plaid - checkered shorts with striped or polka dotted shirts....

Would never in a million years wear  a socks/sandals/shorts combo.....

Would tend not to agree since I have seen it in all the warmer climates around the world.....

Walking length shorts & 3/4 length are acceptable in casual tropical environments.....

Gym/tennis/short shorts/swim trunks = no....Not smart - or good looking away from the gym/pool/tennis courts.....

Im in the "couldnt give a flying  ferk you can think what you want and judge me as farang keenok whilst you sit in your monthly payment car you cant really afford" category...............my clothes often have holes in or paint on, appearnce = nothing even though some economy passengers faint in disbelief as I recline  in my Business Class seat. as they shuffle past...........still " they look good  eh"

Thais probably dislike me even more than Tv members due to my "lack of dress sense"

Years ago, a school was opened in my village. Was invited to the opening. Was informed, that it is expected to appear "dresses-up", as local Government Officials and a member of the Royal-Family would be present.

I threw myself into the only "suit" I had. Dark blue, well tailored and discustingly expensive.

I asked the mirror on the wall: "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the sharpest looking Farang of them all?"
Mirror said: "Never-mind you fool, get going, you are late already."

Indeed, I was late, procedures had already begun, but I was whisked inside anyway.
Once inside, my heart missed a beat: EVERYONE dressed in shinig white suits, me in dark blue! Of course, I stook out like a sore thumb.
During the lenghty procedure, the member of the Royal-Family, glanced at me, clearly amused, smiled and sent a hardly noticable nod my way. I answered in kind.

- The next couple of weeks, I enjoyed "Star-Status" in the village. The friendly smile, directed at me by the member of the Royal-Family had not gone unnoticed by the villagers. All of this, by unknowingly violating "men's dress sense" or better, unknowingly "violating dress codes". Strictly a Rural-Thailand episode.

Nice to know, that the same member of the Royal-Thai-Familiy, appears frequently on Thai-TV, smiling at me.

Cheers.

shorts and a tshirt everyday with crocs or sandals, only wear long pants and a shirt if going out, trousers and dress shirt for weddings and funerals. I dress for comfort not for other people(except my wife), shave twice a week or again if for an important occasion, only wear socks with shoes and shirt colour is what ever I want, it does include pink very rarely. Havent had a beard since the 90's and that wont change, get my hair cut when it starts to annoy me(around every 3 to 4 months), nose and ear hair I like to trim because if I dont my wife will grab them and rip them out when I am not expecting it, makes my eyes water so I try to keep ahead of her. Basically I  wear what I feel like, it may be casual most days but its always clean and same as I would wear in Australia with the same temps.

In the tropics they do. Shorts are much more cool and comfortable and I am not out to impress anyone.

In town, nice shorts and a button up short sleeved shirt. Trainers with short socks. Hair sexy silver.

At home, worn out shorts, T-shirt, flip flops or work boots if I am in the field (steep hills).

Had a beard a few times in my younger days. Wouldn't dare now, the whole facial hair craze makes me cringe. So many guys looking like tossers.

Other facial hair, ears, nose, Are my wife's responsibility. If they are out on display its her fault.

Adult men wearing cutoff jeans, no shirt, and no shoes is the norm in the deep south USA as well. Shirt and shoes are left in their big wheel mud bogging pickups in case they need to go shopping or to eat inside a McDonalds. I love my redneck family and friends. Many Thai adult men wear shorts in public and to Temple. I have never been told that this was illegal or inappropriate for foreigners in Thailand. I really don't care if anyone frowns on me wearing socks with sandles or slip-on shoes. I'm used to the looks and ignore. I hate flipflops.

Oh and to add a further debating point, i wear shorts shirt and either flip flops or trainers when i go to immigration or any other provincial goverment office. I also wear tem to consulates in other warm countries when getting my visa's.

Will also add in my 8 years of teaching here i wore the staff uniform only when we had a visit from dignitaries or for special days. The rest of the time it was grey shorts normal uniform shirt and jesus sandals no sox

I wear jeans when my wife tells me to or when I just want to. Otherwise, it's shorts and socks. She usually irons and lays my clothes out for me anyway. When I decide to wear jeans instead, it's a rush to get the jeans ironed before we go.

I can see that the vanity is wonderful for many people here. See how one little post can bring out answers from everybody regarding how they take care of themselfs.

Guys! This is all something natural that should be buildt in to a healty mindset.

If you have always had brown hair a professional

Coloring along with well trimmed hair does

keep you looking younger.  It should be done by a

professional with different shades of brown and never

allow the white to appear.  Expensive to maintain but

worth the effort and cost.

Yes im an iron everything person. No creases in shorts any more though lol. I do wear jeans if going to the pictures as it gets bloody cold in there.

Keep finger and toenails professionally maintained and shave any hair off your feet/toes if you wear sandals.  Ears and nose must be waxed not clipped to be proper.  Last tip: Bleach your <deleted> if you intend to take it out in public.  If you are an <deleted>, bleach your whole body.

The greatest thing about getting old and wise is that I don't really care too much about what others think (fashion wise). I like to wear comfortable clean clothes every day and flip flops are usually my only footwear.

Or the biggest faux pas is pink shorts or shirt.

With handbag?  :post-4641-1156693976:

I will answer your questions in order.

1 I wear socks with sandles or trainers at night as I keep 2-3000 Bt down them for obvious reasons.

2 I always wear my tops, I don't posses a shirt except for when I go to the UK, over my denims, etc as

I think it looks nicer.

3 I wear my Celtic top, it has green and white hoops, I don't see anything wrong with any hoops.

4. My hair is long, straight, and over my ears, but not long enough for a ponytail. It is always neat and tidy.

5 Ditto.

6 Also ditto. facial hair is like being overweight, ugly and very unattractive. Just my opinion.
