So we did go to Ban Laem yesterday and my partner got another 90 days. It was not without a little bit of hassle though and she had the following experience:

1) No issue on the Thai side when leaving (unlike at Aranya Prathet)

2) IO on Cambodia only wanted THB and wanted 1500 THB for the visa

3) IO told her she could not go back the same day, and wouldnt stamp her out at first. One of the "agent" assisted and he asked for 300 THB to sort it out. She paid him and got the stamp needed.

4) No issues coming back in to Thailand

Good Job - and thanks for reporting back with your experience!!

On #2 - Note for the future, they tried that 1500 Baht thing with me, and I pointed to their sign with the dollar-figure, smiled, and put the $USD on the table, then continued filling out my form.  It was accepted.

On #3 - The 300 Baht for same-day return, this is normal.  There is actually some sort of Cambodian rule that they "overlook" for the 300 Baht.

To get a visa on arrival for Cambodia there is a stipulation that you must stay longer than 24 hours.

The 300 baht appears to a fine for not doing that since all the crossing charge the same amount when entering within 24 hours of arrival.

I used to go to Ban Laem regularly and always used the agents, far easier and only about half an hour. They always asked for 300 but I only ever paid them 200.

A friend of mine went one time and he objected to the agents fee and went to immigration. He also insisted on paying in USD and they kept him waiting about 4 hours, fortunately he had gone in his own transport.

I arrived in the afternoon and left first thing the next morning without difficulty so in practice "overnight" seems to be close enough.

The rule says overnight (and, by the way, does not apply when leaving by air).

That seems more reasonable. Interesting that it's 300 at all crossings, though. Thought I'd try Ban Packard next time.

I have  a Non-Immigrant Type O Multiple Entry Visa and will make my first 90 day Visa run this weekend.  My Thai wife plans on driving our car to Cambodia and stay for a couple days, originally I was planning on a Poipet crossing but after reading post on TV have decided on Ban Laem.  Does anyone know if she will have issues driving a Thai car into Cambodia?

Have either of you driven in Cambodia before?

It's not an excercise for the weak hearted.

Not sure if you need insurance or have to buy on arrival or what.

Pretty sure you must have the blue book in the drivers name as a minimum.

Hopefully others will chip in with more knowledge.

Edit.

They drive on the right hand side of the road ( most of the time.?? )

Also not sure if cambo requires a purple book. ( car paasport ). Believe malaysia does anyway.

So lots to check before you go.

Completed Visa run to Cambodia yesterday.  We decided not to drive into Cambodia, instead we drove to Buriram to visit family, spent the night and then drove 90 minutes to Chong Chom-O'smach border crossing.  We parked the in designated parking area on Thai side and rode motor bike taxi @800 meters to border.  Received departure stamp from Thai IO and walked into Cambodia, crossed the street to Cambodian Immigration building, no lines to navigate only 3 Thai women crossing for casino. First time experience so minor confusion; however wife was able to straighten things out as Cambodian IO's spoke Thai. Provided passport and photo, filled out two simple forms and paid 1500 B.  Received 30 days Cambodian Visa  and moved across the street to Thai Immigration where I filled out an Arrival/departure card, received new 90 day stamp and stepped back into Thailand.  Total time time from departing to reentering Thailand was @30 minutes.

It would be interesting to know how much extra they would have asked for if paying the official US$30 for the visa in dollars. I am guessing they would have demanded 300 baht for same day return, but maybe only 200 baht.

Good to hear it went ok.

Won't be long before you start getting replies on the lines of 'you paid too much'  'you should have argued for an hour and saved 200 baht' etc etc.

My typing is too slow today.

Thanks and I'm sure you're right!  My time and lack of stress is worth more than 200-500 B.
