I know only a handful of people without a FB account.. One of them is my father!... 

 

Its a handy communication tool, it nice to see photos of friends and their growing families back home. 

There's some fun stuff on there, but it does seem a little too addictive for some and tends to bring out the narcissistic tendencies...

Yes I've got one but absolutely hate it and the constant attempts to get me to log in when I search for some information on a business but they can't be bothered to have a proper website just a facebook account.  What a waste of time, no relevant information ever available just a load of stupid pictures and crap comments.

Yes in a fake name with a fake e mail address and used on a vpn , i just use it to look at pictures of family and friends who know its me but never contact me through it . big brother is watching you .

Have one. Only occasionally use messenger and never use the regular FB thing ... whatever it's called.  Joined some Thailand group and found it too lame and unwieldy. Have no interest in sharing what I ate for breakfast or other aspects of my life that even I find excruciatingly boring.

 

Use Twitter about once a month. 4cd 2 use 40 chrtrs 2 say smthng is 2 limtng

Eat with them ,so you dont have to send them a picture of every single thing you eat or drink..........

Twitter's character limit is 140 characters not 40 and as of 2016 any quotes, videos, or images no longer take up your limit.

Nope.  But I do know several people that do.

 

Every now and then they have to reinvent themselves and start a new  account when some of their new ' friends '  turn nasty and start sending nasty comments or stalking them.

 

And surely facebook has done more to devalue the meaning of the word friend than any other site on the internet.

 

Still....there is no denying we live in the ' Look at me , look at me '  generation

and  washing your smalls in public seems to be more addictive than even porn.

All they have to do is to delete that friend from F/B , LOL , no need for them to delete themselves .

  They can also block people from being able to see their profile or to be able to contact them

My 2 closest friends have never had FB accounts and never been outside Europe.  We have been to amsterdam together 15 times and I can only remember boarding the flights. Pair of bores yes but they are my mates and we have not a single thing in common besides those trips to Amsterdam and a lot of rave tickets from days gone by.

Well, yes and no. I've got a dummy account to track news and updates, but no "friends" and I don't post stuff.

 

So basically using FB as a glorified RSS feed.

I have a dormant account. Can't see that I would ever use it. We sell every detail of our lives to these rotters at Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Twitters, Instantgram, Pinterest.....they know, can trace, everything about your life. Everything. We give it to them in exchange for peanuts.

Good on the EU to sticking it to Google...with other countries to follow suit and the other companies under scrutiny. 

Try googling a news item: before too long you are taken to a site high on the list of returns but likely to be a subscription site....not because the story is better than other sites, or more widely read....simply because that provider has paid Google to have it given greater visibility. Posing as an honest broker, Google is rotten to the core. Same as ALL those US companies.

You can go to numerous free sites to get news .

BBC , SKY , CNN , Fox and mant other outlets , all free

Very few media outlets charge a fee to view their site

It just isnt true that news providers pay google to get to the top of the page .

Some companies do advertise on Google , and these are quite clearly marked as advertisement .

Why would anyone want to trace every aspect of my life ?

Do you think that theres some anonymous person wanting to watch everything that you do ?

   If there is someone out there like that , all they have to do is to send me a FB request , and then I can watch everything that they do , also

Almost every newspaper service has a subscription requirement. You may read up to a certain number of articles free each month but are then locked out; more commonly these days they have "premium" articles, ie never free, only open to subscribers.

I think you will find that there is a nexus between advertising on google, google analytics and the positioning of returns: for ALL businesses, including media ( but excluding services such as ABC, BBC, NPR , DW, etc). Correct me if I'm wrong.

TBF , People write the articles and its only fair that you should pay them to read what they have written.

It you would like to read their articles in print, you will have to buy a newspaper

But those are articles , the main news is usually always free .

   I thought that it was solely done on click and popularity , even so , if you do not find the source that you want, you can scroll down , or even explore a bit and go to page two
