Don't  have it; Don't want it-  If I am interested in you I will call and if you are interested in me- the same.  I don't care what you eat or any other personal details of your life . I prefer real people- instead of people looking at a cell phone constantly and ignoring the reality of life.

Can you see the irony of posting that on an anonymous forum ?

Instead of conversing with real life friends on facebook, you would rather converse with strangers anonymously..................because you "prefer real people"

   Oh, the irony

Sounds like you are a loner that no one can contact even if they wanted too......

It would be quite interesting to find out whether the same people who are a bit afraid of F/B are the same people who petrified about Thais ?

The "I was walking down the street today and I bumped into a Thai guy , I thought that he was going to kill me , I pleaded with me Wife to explain to him that it was an accident , I got away with it this time, but I wont be going out anymore" brigade

6 people in a restaurant ,

5 of them are on FB, 1 is staring true the window.....it is called "socializing"

80 friends on FB , but you never see them in real ?

Eat with them ,so you dont have to send them a picture of every single thing you eat or drink..........

It is Fake Book.....for anti social people ........

Interesting. My wife made an account when our son was born. We make contacts and get modelling jobs through it and a few whopping great payments later I'm a fan.

Of the contacts that come along, and a few strangers that drop in to comment, we end up with some real friends - so that when we go out we have people we can meet that we have no other way of meeting.

Our 'real' social circles are expanded. Our financial standing is improved. There is (as someone else here has already complained) a problem that not all businesses go to the effort to create proper websites. Modelling agencies included - they will simply post jobs on their Facebook page. It's up to you if you don't want to follow them (and many Thai based 'for sale' or 'expat' groups are definitely not for me) then you don't.

But really, there isn't any way to replace it. Before Facebook, I used identi.ca, later on Twitter kind of took over (it's evil, but identi.ca is rather specialised despite being 'free').

So yes, scoff all you like - but it's good for us. Very important networking and communication platform unmatched by anything else.

With internet, if you're not in the top three, you're nowhere.

Ok, clever guy.

Call me on my phone before 9pm and I will give you 10,000 baht cash.

Is that real enough for you???

I don't have an account but look at business pages. I don't like the idea of being personally searchable online. I understand for younger people it's almost required though. Some public records can't be helped though. Recently saw the mug shot of a young relative arrested on drunken rowdiness charges.

I could care less about  10,000 Baht. I have no intention of calling someone who is sarcastic.  I answered the post and gave my opinion- if you like using FB up to you. I don't see the need for it and I believe it is a deterrent to actual  integration of society. My opinion- you have yours- live and let live.

Hi Transam I share your pain mate but not with Mrs Trans ( did you really mean that? I mean this is thailand!) but with the current Mrs Dark Lord.

After every trip trip into town I am disturbed from my stupor to take a photo of her looking beautiful (hmmmmm) which ends up on Facebook.

Arghhh

I don't - I closed it for good a year ago, and never looked back.

Many reasons - first of all, as soon as a lady searched for my name on FB, my wife would appear in her "suggested friends", causing trouble.

Next, I am not a fan of sending a CC of every conversation I have to the U.S. government.

Next, unless you're Dan Bilzerian, nobody gives a shlt what you are doing and what you are eating.

And... except being addictive and transforming kids into cellphone zombies, I don't see any use for it when you can easily set up a Line group with the people you care about.

I have never had a FB account but it is open to all sorts of amusing mischief. If someone sent me a pic of a meal i would take a dump photograph it and send the pic with, ''had the same meal but couldn't photograph it, here the aftermath''. Someone boasting about the super night club they visited with pics would be open to a pic of vomit on the floor, ''Also had a good night out, just got home'' Don't think i would get many friends though.

As I said- if you like it up to you- however, I agree with the poster who indicated that others have access to our information. It is very easy using facial recognition software to find every detail about you through not only yourself but the connection with friends and acquaintances who then connect with other people. Once  someone who has an ulterior motive finds out basic information about you- they can parlay that into more definite information such as a social security number or national ID number; your bank account information and other details that you would not want them to have. In addition, many Governments build dossiers from this information. I may be old fashioned but I  resent the lack of privacy in the World today and I am not going to contribute to anyone's database on me. Technology is great when used in a reasonable way but  there are a lack of controls that protect citizens.

Deleted my account after the wifey asked if I clicked like on her post too many times.  Of course it caused some steam but with all things she got over it, as I did w FB.  I blow steam every time we go out to eat and I hear 'wait teerak, let me take picture'.  I have finally got (or is that trained) so she doesn't use her flipp'n phone during dinner's out....that is only for the pics....if I could only conquer that.

You seem a bit confused about the matter. People are not afraid of FB but rather hostile, wary, indifferent. It is a sinister site, with a strong, loyal following among those of significantly low IQ and preys upon that part of the population.

BTW, the most likely reason for anyone to bump into a Thai chap would be that he was glued to his FB page and didn't see you coming. We all have to sidestep these morons...but it's not uniquely Thai, happening all over the world as the FB lemmings roam the streets, malls and transport systems.

Ol' Trans does none of that in the street, but maybe.....singing-in-the-rain-smiley-emoticon.gif.3e747e47ce68eab8650c385169ad3143.gif.....

And some of us simply don't like it.

I find then page layout annoying and inconvenient.

Although there numerous social internet groups , and various other sites that people use , thaivisa being one .

So it isnt actually facebook that you have a problem with, or social media in general , its the way people  too often look at their phones in public .

I have it I admit !
Limit my friends to people I actually know and can call a friend. You just have to ignore the BS photos etc.
Good if you have a hobby and you can join a group and discuss it as much as you like , a bit like TV except people don't tell you to go home if they don't agree with your opinion !! [emoji51]
