I had my wife order this service. I had no information so I told her to just get the best package they had. She was told that installation would be 15 days. Amazingly enough they were on time. It was installed yesterday.

The serviceman told me the ZTE router is 5G capable. All I know is that it is MUCH faster than my previous AIS 4G aircard. Large file downloads are very fast. I don't put much faith in download tests but from Ookla, the results are Ping 21 ms, Download 43.51 Mbps and upload 52.26 Mbps.

I don't know where they get the 200/80 figures from but this is the best Internet that I have ever had. I'm satisfied so far. No complaints if the service proves reliable.

But this is not directly related to the fiber optical internet.

Those routers have a slot(USB) to connect "aircards" for internet via mobile network.

It would be a backup if the fiber internet is down.

And 5G is not yet running in Thailand.

Still many areas on 3G.

The results seem to be from a Singapore server (21 ms ping).

You should rerun the test with ToT 's website:

http://speedtest1.totbroadband.com/

Just click that button in the center.

Results should then be close to 200 down, 80 up.

Else you could complain.

200/80 is kind of overkill for a private user. But if you are happy with why not.

download with TOT speed test is 43.3, upload is 150.6. No where near 200/80.

If you ordered 200/80 that's what you should get to the TOT speedtest, complain.

I'll wait until I get my first bill and if I am charged the 1,200 baht, I'll certainly complain. I am about 400 meters from the main cable. I was surprised at how small the cable is.

Even an end-user fiber cable ("single-mode") can easily bridge kilometers without significant loss.

Once read a nice comparison:

if the ocean would be as transparent as fiber optic cable you could see the ground of the Mariana Trench (deepest spot, about 11km).

The actual fiber optic cable as such is "very thin" (don't know the number).

The cable outside along the street is nuch thicker from the "jacket" and the strain-relief.

Don't wait Gary... complain/enquire now!

Those tests would be within Thailand no there's no reason you should see less than 200Mbps.

Just curious, and if you have the time, what results do you get if you perform a download test using testmy.net and selecting Singapore, then Frankfurt, then London as test servers?

Wow!

9-11 Mbps from both Germany and Singapore is surprising.

I could accept that from Germany, but from Singapore you should be getting from 150-180 Mbps with your subscription.

Still more than adequate for streaming video purposes (but don't tell them that!).

I would still be complaining/enquiring Gary... your TOT result (within Thailand) should be close to 200 down, 80 up... and don't settle for anything less.

I just sent them an email asking them to explain why I'm not getting what I am paying for.

True is giving me 20 on the upload which is double what I'm paying for and exactly 30 on the download.  Plenty fast and since I assume that Gary and I mostly look at international sites I'd bet that other than torrents our requests arrive in the same amount of time.

How is your computer connected to the router when doing the ToT speedtest?

If it's by WiFi (wireless) I suggest that you repeat the tests with cable connnection (LAN cable).

Some older WiFi interfaces will have problems to reach a net rate of 150 Mbit/s.

You pegged that one. I hooked it up to the LAN cable and the speed is as advertised. I wouldn't have believed it until I tried it. Thanks a lot.

Your computer has wireless "G".  Check to see if you can upgrade to "N" at least and "AC" is better.  Also see if you can force 5 ghz connection as it is less crowded than 2.4.

It's working very well now and both the 2.4 and the 5 GHz lights are on, whatever that means. I'm afraid to make any changes.

Understood.  My 'force 5 ghz' recommendation was on the client side.  Otherwise you could block older devices from accessing it.

I live in the sticks, the last house on a dirt road.  I was surprised when they showed up about 6 months ago offering fiber.  I chose the cheapest package at that time, 700 baht/month, which stated 50mbs download and 20mbs upload.  I am right now getting 43.8mbs down and 19.8mbs up.  It's certainly better than the old copper where I was limited to 5mbs down and never got better than 400kbs up.. I also changed the phone  to fiber which required a phone number change.  II had to go back and update a lot of contacts with the new number but I can now hear the calls Okay rather than a bunch of static.

Outages with the old copper were a daily problem, but, knock on wood, I've had no outages since switching to the fiber.

I've got ToT fiber and still got my old ToT phone line which is nothing but static now...can you use the ToT ISP fiber connection to replace an old telephone land line? same cost (thb107/mo)? any home rewiring needed?

Yep!  If you have the ZTE modem all that has to be done is plug the phone into the back of the modem.  One thing is that for the phone to work 24/7 the modem has to be turned on all on the time. I was worried about it getting too hot but it has worked for months with no problem. Just call TOT and they can set it up and will change out the modem for free if yours is not compatible..  You will most likely have to get a new phone number as they have a different block set aside for fiber.  The cost is the same as the copper, 107 baht, and is a world of difference.

The 1,200 a month is actually cheaper than the AIS aircard that I was using and much faster.
