rooster59
Officers sacked over illegal auction of Army cars By The Sunday Nation Army spokesman Col Winthai Suvaree The Department of Army Transportation (DAT) has sacked officers over the illegal auction of more than 1,100 Army cars sold using nine forged DAT documents, an Army spokesman revealed yesterday. Colonel Winthai Suvaree said that the DAT had found irregularities in auction documents related to Army cars. Officers had submitted the documents to the Department of Land Transport (DLT), which led to a thorough examination that identified nine documents involving total sales of 1,136 Army cars. After careful inspection, it was found that all the documents were forged, Winthai said. The details of the cars, such as the engine and the identification numbers, did not match those of the Army, he said. The authorities’ signatures found in the documents were also fake, Winthai added. During the time covered by the documents, the DAT did not put any cars up for auction, he added. The DAT had brought strongest disciplinary punishment against all involved, and sacked them from the Army, the spokesman said. The number of officers involved has not been disclosed. In the meantime, the DLT is tracking down the cars involved in the fraud to prevent or overturn illegal registration. fruitman
So they sold 1100 cars by auctions who were not "real army cars"... What's the trick about that? Were they imported cars maybe? Or where did the 1100 cars come from and why did they have to sell them this way? Is it about tax evasion?
ezzra
That's it??? you steal, forge and profit out of illegally selling 1,100 cars you only get sacked? who says that it doesn't pay to be a criminal in this country? no wonder why there're so many crocks in the army, police and government, they keep doing it as they know that the worst that can happened to them is transferred to inactive post of get sacked..... Where they can blab about the guys higher up who were in it up to their necks? Doubt it. They either need to let them go -under threat if they talk- or make them disappear. Ricardo
Perhaps also freeze their personal-assets, so that some of the lost public-funds can be recovered, after all it works with former-PMs ?

TKDfella
My guess this is just an 'exercise'. Someone has to appear to be doing something about corruption so offer up some morsel to 'prove' it. Is it just a coincidence that there has been a lot in the news lately about illegal cars? Probably the tip of a very big 'iceberg'.

There is a bit more information in the other paper and they also included trucks and buses. If you spend a little time reading before posting you may even have noticed this little snippet of information. I admit it was easy to miss as it was the second paragraph. quote from the OP. Chris Lawrence
Haven't seen their movie star colonel for a while. Still recovering from shooting King Naresuan 5? Those good looks just make you want to believe in something. Should be reading the news 24/7 in Army get up. Maybe a few more medals. But the OP. 1100 vehicles? didn't anyone notice? joebrown
The Thai military aren't renowned for their quality maintenance standards. Could be that the cars have been 'clocked' and never had an oil change in 200,000kms. If you want one of these cars you can have any colour, as long as it's camouflage green & brown.
