Asia highway at Sing Buri jammed with holiday traffic heading out of Bangkok

By The Nation

The Asia highway in Sing Buri was jammed with vehicles heading out of Bangkok for the long Buddhist holiday on Saturday morning, especially at two sections where construction is underway.

The sheer number of motorists coupled with the construction of two underpasses caused heavy congestion at kilometre marker 69 in front of the Prom Buri Hospital and at kilometre marker 96 in In Buri district.

Vehicles were tailed back for several kilometres at both spots.

At marker 69, the southbound road was closed and two lanes of the northbound road were allocated for southbound traffic, causing a serious bottleneck.

At marker 96, the northbound road was closed, and motorists had to use two southbound lanes. Traffic police diverted vehicles to a 10-kilometre road that runs parallel to the Asia highway to avoid the bottleneck. Traffic re-entered the highway at the 105-kilometre marker.

Got caught in that back up Saturday. What was much worse was traffic was jammed heading out for Isaan from Bangkok on highway 2 for at least 90 kilometers.
