Attorney general orders probe into ‘drunk’ public prosecutor whose voice went viral

 

The attorney general has ordered an investigation and threatened severe disciplinary action against a public prosecutor in Chon Buri, who allegedly abused his authority by forcing a patrol policeman to apologise to his face for refusing to lead him to a larp (Isaan spicy minced-meat) shop.

 

The audio clip of a policeman from Saensuk police station apologising to the unnamed public prosecutor was posted on the popular social-issue complaint Facebook page “Black Heart Queen @queentogetherisone” on Sunday, where it subsequently went viral.

 

In the clip, an unnamed policeman can be heard telling the public prosecutor that he had been told by his commander to see him and apologise, but he did not know what he had done wrong.

 

The man, who claimed to be public prosecutor on the clip, said the policeman was in the wrong for failing to have treated a public prosecutor with due respect.

 

The administrator of the Facebook page said the policeman recounted that he had been patrolling the road and the public prosecutor, who was apparently drunk, got his attention by sounding his car’s horn and told him to lead the way to a larp shop.

 

However, the policeman refused to comply, saying he was on duty patrolling the road.

 

The public prosecutor then became angry and called the station commander to demand an apology. 

 

The policeman said the public prosecutor had also called a local military leader, demanding that he send three troops to capture him and get him to apologise in person.

 

Somnuek Siangkong, spokesman of the Office of the Attorney General (OAG), said on Monday that Attorney General Pongniwat Yutthaphanborikan had learned of the clip and ordered an investigation, because the incident severely damaged the reputation of public prosecutors.

 

Pongniwat ordered the head of the internal affairs division of the OAG, Thira Hongcharoen, to investigate the incident as a matter of urgency. 

 

If the individual in question really is a public prosecutor, he will face severe disciplinary action, the spokesman added.

If the story is real, to me it brings some questions:

 

- How did a person with these thoughts and behaviors ever get to be a public prosecutor? 

 

- I have doubts this is the first time this person has exhibited such attitudes and actions, if true why is he still in the force?

People who abuse their position in this way are not worthy of respect. Quite the opposite actually, which has actually turned out to be the case, as he is clearly viewed with contempt by those who have been commenting on it, here and on Facebook.

I hope he loses lots of face by having to publicly apologise, or better still, sack the tosser.

If the Public Prosecutor really was drunk and driving a car, why did the Policeman not arrest him,

probably more than his job was worth,the P.P. would have had him sacked,that's the problem.

The Do-you-know-who-I-am movement is alive and well and flourishing in Thailand. I'd sack not just the Public Prosecutor for Drunk Driving but also the Station chief who ordered his men to apologise.

How about if he really is not? I would think that entails some severe disciplinary action as well, like a jail term for impersonating, & etc.

Lowly police are often placed between a rock and a hard place,  their superiors siding with 'supposed' VIPs rather than with their underlings.
