ICAO acknowledges Thailand's attempts to address aviation security concerns

BANGKOK, 11 July 2017 (NNT) – The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has acknowledged Thailand's attempts to address the red-flag security concerns while the country plans to become a regional aviation hub, said Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith.

He said the ICAO delegation for Asia-Pacific region acknowledged a report from Thai officials about progress in addressing aviation security concerns after the country had been given the red-flag status from the ICAO.

Thailand has made progress in reforming organizations and laws, as well as renewing aviation licenses to 28 airlines which operate international routes, six of which have already received new certifications.

The ICAO Asia-Pacific delegates have on acknowledged the efforts, and praised the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand which has been selected by the ICAO Asia-Pacific office as chair of an air traffic working committee.

The minister said Thailand's aviation development focused on the positioning of the country as the regional aviation hub through the development of Suvarnabhumi airport, Don Muang airport, and U-Tapao airport with planned high-speed railway connectivity to accommodate the growth of civil aviation.

Thailand is expected to serve 220 million international air passengers by 2030.

Perhaps they could appoint SriLanka Tony as chairman of this ambitious project.

Only in Thailand could this be spun into support for a "regional hub".

He gave the ICAO some paper. Period.
