KORAT: -- Northeastern rail services resumed on Tuesday after nine derailed freight carriages were salvaged in Nakhon Ratchasima’s Muang district.

A crane train was sent from Bangkok to remove the carriages, which weigh 60 tonnes each.

The accident on Monday evening caused delays to trains on 18 northeastern routes.

Services were resumed at 10.45am with the Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani train being the first to pass through the area.

The derailed trains also blocked the road at the rail crossing. The road was reopened at 10.20am after the derailed carriages were removed from the area.

Derailed because of heavy rain, brake failure? Or lack of maintenance, excessive speed, overloading, but we are not allowed to mention those?

Save a baht on maintenance to cost millions later, the Thai way.

From the existing fragile rail network to this in one giant leap takes an awful lot of imagination............
