Win10 cannot create a USB recovery drive - your solutions?

Featured Replies

I've had my PC since Win7 days (2012) and it updated to Win10 without issues - now on latest Creators update, I have never done a clean install of o/s since buying the PC in 2012 so the o/s has updated with all my settings carried over - which has saved me a heap of time.

But ever since whenever I try the Win10 create recovery drive I get message below:

The only workaround I have so far, having already tried a system check (disk scan etc -no errors found) is to create a new o/s USB install drive using the MS Media Creation Tool. Trouble is with this I would have to reinstall all my apps and settings again if I ever needed it.

I suppose only alternative to just carry on with what I have is to clone the Win10 drive if I want to avoid starting from a clean install again.

Just posting this hear wondering if others have experienced this and or found a workaround for the MS problem other than clean install?

I skip the Microsoft 'solution' and just use Macrium Reflect to create an image of the drive partitions, and a Reflect WinPE bootable recover stick.

When it came to trying to solve all the issues created in upgrading from Win7 to Win10 I decided to cut any additional investment of time and just did a clean install, which was possible as Microsoft had already 'fingerprinted' my machine to create the digital entitlement.
