Upon departing, do they sell Thai wines at the airport? Will go to Khao Yai to see some of the vineyards, but with the ridiculous taxation I wonder if it's possible to buy Thai wine at the airport and at what prices.

Just beware and flee the Suvarnabhumi airport shops like the plague....

ok this is back in 2009.....but if such forms of racket and corruption amongst Thai Airport Police or Thai Customs could happen then, within a so called secured airport complex, it can happen now...just watch your back my friend and don't spend a penny in the airport and don't trust any Thai Police or Customs. Such articles are full on the internet and speak for themselves.

Are domestic wines taxed heavily?  I understood that *imported* wines had an *import tax* of 600% or so, but assumed that that was to protect the domestic market, hence domestic product wouldn't be taxed (other than probably the 7% VAT.)

As long as they don't mix the wine with fruit juice (hence the marking fruit wine), domestic wines are heavily taxed to.
