Have look at this thread from 2007. It's FAR more complicated than Thaksin...Thaksin....Thaksin ( but I know how much you like to bleat about him, even when he's irrelevant to the main story)

'Prbkk': Do you mean that Thaksin, in your opinion, had no involvement, at all, in King Power becoming a monopoly for trading in Swampy's transit area? Not even mentioning here any other crooked deal having a link with Suvarnabhumi he 'might' have been involved in, nor other airports in Thailand. IMO, he did more than give a monopoly to KP, he even (not in the written form, but...) allowed KP to 'shape' the interior of the airport to its own wishes, and tell AoT (while it should have been the exact opposite) what was a commercial area or not, and 'help' determine the contractual rates...

No, I'm not apologising for or defending Thaksin but rather simply making the point that he is just one of many involved in this sad and rather sordid saga. KP became "untouchable" , for reasons that can't be discussed very openly. Thaksin was little more than a messenger boy.

55555. You think? It was granted its airport monopoly under the government of then Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, a man who knows what a monopoly is worth, and IMHO got his cut from it.

Behind every great fortune lies a great crime, and here's two examples in one post.

King Power was indeed granted it's concession in 2006 - during a period of PAD street protests that were followed by a coup.

If the concession was Thaksin corruption, once the army tossed out Thaksin why did they not annul the concession?

They had complete control and did nothing.

If it was an oversight then, why did they not do anything after the soft coup that put Abhisit in power?

If it was an oversight then, why did the NCPO do nothing for 3 years where they had the use of Section 44?

The concession is corrupt no doubt, but what you fail to acknowledge is that in Thailand there is always power exerted over and above the government of the day.

Unfortunately Thai Corruption starts when your born into an elite family. In the states we say "born with a Silver Spoon in your Mouth"!

In Thailand, it's Corruption that gave these people their wealth. They train their kids to do the same and no one ever gets caught with

their hand in the cookie jar. Thanks to the Military, we are seeing where the thefts and wealth came from. I still can't believe the corruption with the Temples and the Monks. Maybe in the future the Military will take a good look at themselves and say enough is enough, but there's a long, long way to go before it leaves the Land of Smiles. It's part of Thai Culture for the fortunate few.f

Lets not forget the Russian mafia oligarch who currently owns Chelsea.

Saddam and Gaddafi really missed a trick here with their exit strategy.

Gaddafi son was a PRO footballer in Italy for a time saw him at a wedding the once with team mate Jay bothroyd!

Does anyone remember the King Power tourist shop lifting scams? When innocent tourists were accused of shop lifting at their shops in Bangkok airport, held to ransom by some unscrupulous Indian guy called Tony, then exploited for thousands of pounds and threatened with jail unless they paid up.

Rotten to the core, hope that company is put out of business.
