Police have traced one of the three suspects wanted for allegedly embezzling millions of baht in compensation money from a family. But she is already in jail for a drug conviction.

“Investigators have already gone to the prison to make sure she is detained for embezzlement charges too,” Metropolitan Police Commissioner Lt General Sanit Mahathavorn said Thursday. “We will also track down the other two suspects.”

Earlier this week, a court approved arrest warrants for lawyer Pisit Sammalert, his wife Pornpavee Chukaew and Thitapa Sawasdee in connection with Pisit’s failure to hand over Bt4million compensation to Porntip Chantarat and her daughter, Pattarada Kaewpong.

Porntip lost her husband and was injured in an accident 12 years ago. The accident seriously injured the couple’s baby and Pattarada has since become wheelchair-bound.

A transport firm responsible for the accident had been ordered to pay the victim’s family Bt4 million compensation. But Pisit allegedly duped Porntip into assigning him to pick up the compensation on her behalf. He then took most of the money for himself.

Pornpavee and Thitapa are his alleged accomplices.

Pisit and Thitapa are now believed to be on the run.

Metropolitan Police Division 7 chief Pol Maj General Thirapong Wongratpitak said Pisit cancelled his subscription to cell-phone services after the scandal broke.

“But we will go after him,” Thirapong said.

Took them a week after the arrest warrant was issued just to figure out one was already in jail.. Awesome police work. How did they "trace" her. Surely the authorities just punched her name into any police computer and she would already be in the department of corrections (or whatever ridiculously long winded name they used for it in Thailand) database? So that takes care of the first 11 seconds of the investigation what where they doing for the rest of the week? While we're at it even though she is guilty how can they make sure she is also locked up for embezzlement charges when she hasn't even been convicted yet. Hopeless.

people sit in jail for long periods of time trying to come up with bail to bribe their way out. it is not recorded as the cops want to be paid cash and release the crim/victim without record. i got locked up for having the wrong address in my work permit. i paid a bond and it was recorded by being written in a book. no computer record. police stations work as independent mafias. it is not like the west where they share data bases.

And, of course, the alleged criminals have had their passports suspended so they cannot easily flee the country? The Immigration authorities are fully informed of who these people are and what they look like? :whistling:

We want the lawyer! Has the lawyers house been  taken or land or assets or bank accounts? What are the RTP Clowns seriously doing. They sit in their offices and wait for these criminals to turn themselves in. This is a joke! Amazing Thailand.

yes i moved from samui to pattaya and spent a year trying to update it. the chonburi and suritani labor offices did not seem to be able to work together to get it changed. knowing what i know now i should have cancelled the old work permit and opened a new one.

Now that would be great police work, but I doubt that has been done, just look at the Red Bull case
