PHETCHABUN — A buffalo conservation foundation is offering a 100,000 baht bounty to combat what its president described Monday as corruption by livestock officials.

 

Nuthaya Polham, head of the New Life for Animals foundation, said a buffalo that went missing after being deposited into a buffalo-sharing royal project is the result of endemic corruption involving local livestock officials.

Court sentences cattle farmer one month in prison for selling buffalo borrowed from buffalo bank for breeding

The Lomsak Provincial Court has sentenced a cattle farmer one month in prison and a fine of 35,000 baht for selling out a buffalo, Boonrod” donated to a royally initiated buffalo bank project at Khao Kho district a livestock  office.

 

Boonrod was bought from a slaughter house by Mr Rapeepat Taratornpitak to save it from being slaughtered for its meat. It was later donated to the buffalo bank.

 

The cattle farmer Worapol Kaewdaeng was given a one month jail term without suspension and a fine of 35,000 baht last Friday after he was arrested by police and prosecuted in the court. But he was granted bail pending appeal.

Corruption seems to find it's way into every tiny dark corner of Thai life. It is a major part of the economy which would collapse without it.

If anybody thinks corruption will ever be stamped out in Thailand then I want some of whatever they are smoking.

Guess the farmer will be at the buffalo-bank for a new one in 1 month. Must have made a fortune for him.
