AYUTTHAYA: -- Thai media reported yet another sickening dog attack in Ayutthaya.

Incredibly it was the fifth time that the dog in question had attacked someone.

And it has still not been put down.

This time a five year old boy was left fighting for his life in hospital after being mauled in the head while playing with other children at a playground.

He needed 39 stitches amid fears that he could get a serious infection and die.

Phoom had gone to the playground with friends but needed the toilet and went off on his own to use the loo.

But while he was there the brown and white Thai breed jumped over a fence and attacked him from behind knocking the little boy to the ground.

He was then savagely mauled and bitten across the face and head.

Only the intervention of an older boy with a golf club prevented the attack from continuing as the friend succeeded in chasing off the dog.

Phoom was rushed to Tha Rua hospital where he has been for the last five days after getting thirty nine stitches and a lot of life saving drugs.

The Tha Rua district chief is set to meet the father and the dog owner today while police are also investigating after a complaint was received from the father Mongkhon, 54 and mother Pornwimon, 35.

The dog belongs to a man called Malayu, 45, and Sanook said it was the fifth time that he had bitten someone in the neighborhood of Tha Rua.

The dog lives in a house next to the playground where many children congregate.

Five attacks by this mongrel dog,  how many more or even deaths before people get the picture that this mutt posses a real danger to everyone and needs to be eradicated.

They really need some functioning dangerous dog laws here. Two attacks would be tragic, 5 is willful negligence. The dog owner should do time for this, and the dog needs to be sent to the kennel at the end of the universe.

Dogs are a specially protected species here, even when they maim and kill. No doubt somebody will be blaming the owners as usual, we all know dogs are all innocent :sleepy:

Drown that disgraceful mutt in the river (and consider doing the same to his dog).....But god damn why is common sense so thin on the ground here when you work for the authorities? Once is understandable, five times is just rididculous. Hope the poor young kid gets handsomely compensated by the lazy, idiotic dog owner and makes a full recovery

That particular dog would have ceased being a problem way before the 5th attack in our village.

Yes, the same here. He would have received a lovely chicken bone, only it would have been smeared with rat poison.

this is so disgusting that I just cannot comment except to say the owner should be put down and the villagers should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this mutt to live. if this ever happened in my neighborhood the dog would be dead and the owner would be sued out of his hut.

No they're not. Dogs get put down for this sort of thing. Maybe the owner has connections in the Tetsaban. The Tetsaban being the "responsible" authority. I got bitten by a family dog, just a nip but had to get the shots because when I went back the next day, surprise surprise no dog. Owners moved the dog for fear of it being taken away and having to compensate me. If the dog was there it could have been tested and I may have avoided going to the hospital over a one month period for the series of rabies shots.

I hear the phrase often from Thais, "up to him/them" in response to bad/reprehensible behavior by Thais. As if a confrontation will trigger the problem further against them or the neighbor/s.

Canuck...here is your problem with your decision making and outcomes....

you are correct that dog management regulations are required and enforced....

Then you state willful negligence jail time and death should be carried out...

when you have no regulations and enforceable arm, one cannot state this and that...based on what? Your western knowledge?

In the absence of a functioning legal system, it falls down to a meeting with parties of interest and the police as the mediator and judge...what they decide will have no bearing in future cases/outcomes because it is all informal with no precedent, recording and legal accountability....

this is how thailand functions....

hey Cap...will you be asking for both civil and criminal damages? Will this lawsuit be out of Toronto or Paris?

Let's put the dog's owner to sleep as well!

All dogs should be kept behind a fence high enough to keep the dog corralled and a CLOSED gate. The owners should also be responsible for dog noise. I live in a small group of executive type houses on the edge of a golf course, but the dog noise, at all hours of the day and night is horrendous. Between six houses, there are twenty dogs, even though myself and my next door neighbour choose to have none. Three of the houses with dogs are owned by farang. The they must be deaf or stupid to be able to put up with the noise.

In the case in the OP, the dog's owner should be brought to book and the dog put down. Five attacks on humans is five too many. But, for the benefit of the Thai-bashing police, I know, TIT.

Not disagreeing about functioning dangerous dog laws, but how would you do it?

Most Western countries that have introduced dangerous dog acts have based their definition of dangerous dogs on breed, ie, banning ownership of certain breeds of dogs. This IMO is completely wrong. Onus has to be on the owner's, again, IMO.

If a dangerous dog act was in place it still wouldn't have addressed this issue unless 'Thai' dog breeds were banned and this of course wouldn't happen as they are part of the 'culture'..............................

Exactly.

Had this been a Pitbull we'd have had all the barstool experts demanding a ban on Pitbulls. I wonder which breed they want to ban in this case? It's clearly the responsibility of the owner to train and control any dog. Unfortunately it's too late to do anything with the dog in this case and it should be destroyed ASAP and the owner banned from dog ownership. Unlikely to happen though, unless a local throws it a cyanide sandwich.

It is so unbelievable it is hard to understand, this country's laws. I a human did ths to a child in Thailand there would be  CHANCE they may go to prison. And the thing is, if the father went and killed the dog he would go to jail and be made to compensate the dog owner.

Get well soon little fella.

When will they EVER learn?  it's not rocket science

Round up the strays, put them down and make their owners RESPONSIBLE . At the very minimum if a dog gets aggressive, especially to kids, kill it.  No 'if's' or 'but's'  it's a no-brainer to protect people but the Thai's still won't do it.

Owning a dog is tantamount to admitting your own deficiencies in public; whether it's an emotional thing or pure ignorance.  We scoff at the Elizabethans emptying chamber pots out of bedroom windows.  In 400 years time dog-owning will appear equally ludicrous.  Dogs cause accidents; spread disease (like chamber pots); kill and disfigure children.

Working dogs fine; all others should go in the pot.

The other problem is they have this perverse view of Buddhism that they can't kill anything (yet kill 'by proxy' everyday when they gorge on dead animals).  It's pathetic, selfish and moronic. Someone, for God's sake, send this mut to the doggy afterlife.

When will someone shoot that dog...  ?

No can shoot dog, it is a great sin, 'baap kam'. Must feed this dog some more good bones so he don't bite again.

The legal system seems to function pretty well when a human hurts a dog.

And perhaps you weren't aware, but a forum is a place for opinions. It is my opinion that action should be taken; but I barely have the right to butter my bread in this country let alone make anything happen outside my door.
