Yingluck says her bank accounts confiscated, money withdrawn

Former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Wednesday disputed a remark by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha that authorities have not yet frozen her bank accounts.

Earlier on Wednesday, General Prayut told reporters at Government House that the authorities involved, particularly the Finance Ministry, were just in the process of preparing for seizure of Yingluck’s assets. Confiscation of her assets would actually start after the authorities are allowed by court to do so, he said.

However, in her latest Twitter message, Yingluck said what Prayut said was “not true”.

“It is not true what the NCPO leader said that seizure of my asset is only in preparation,” she tweeted, referring to Prayut, who also heads the ruling junta National Council for Peace and Order.

“My bank accounts have already been confiscated and the money in the accounts have been withdrawn,” she added in his message.

The ex-PM tweeted both in Thai and English in the evening, with a link to a news report about what General Prayut said.

Last year, the Finance Ministry issued an executive order seeking a civil liability of Bt35 billion from Yingluck, as compensation for damages caused to the state stemming from her government’s rice-pledging scheme.

Anyone out there still in doubt about the "verdict" that hasn't yet been completed by "the judges"?

AND, they are trying to keep people in masses away from the verdict hearing?

Jesus Christ, Kermit the Frog could see through this one!

This man doesn't know when to leave well-enough alone. Yingluck is finished as a political leader but the cretins advising Prayuth seem to want to turn her into a martyr and are doing a pretty good job of doing so. The ham-fisted buffoonery gets worse by the day and it's not lost on those who have supported ( and will continue to support) the various iterations of Thaksin-led parties.

This is the part I find funniest. By telling everyone to stay away from the sentencing, they are admitting what is going down, and I think enough of our politically savvy, though not always too smart locals have worked that out. The foregone conclusion of a political witch hunt, and the perceived stay away challenge to all those who oppose the Junta, could potentially be, the very catalyst that causes the Empire to collapse.

There's a trouble brewing, guilty before the court ruling, won't go down well among the red shirts, and am sure internationally this will put Thailand a little further in the sh-t, oy !

So many facts conveniently ignored by many such as documented rice scheme collusion, connected cronies, fraud and the inter-connected massive damage of flooding exacerbated by Yingluck's Govt ordering dams kept shut to get rice crops in (to kick their rice scheme off, at any cost). But the saddest ignored FACT in all this is the  poorest farmers were not even part of the scheme (which the 'other' paper has documented mostly enriched connected cronies, middlemen, Pu Yai's and already wealthy rice millers, large farmers and large agri landlords - basically the mob who control influence and  'get out the vote' for Thaksin plus influences who gets a chanote or Nor sam gor upgrade authorisation,  or new road/water/power etc in NE Villages) Not many will go against the local Pu Yai's and millers/people of influence in NE Villages, which works hand in hand with the Shinawat family political machine. Meanwhile, many on here shamelessly cry  about the 'poor persecuted Shinawat family'...

It comes from a different case. It is an administrative decision (translate: Junta's decision) which is different from the judicial case. She has been "fined" by the Junta.

Are policy decisions illegal now? It did not reach the poor farmers as the objective was to subsidize production. Is it illegal? She (not sure the decision process was that simple) chose an objective over another by keeping dams shut. Is it illegal?

Yeah...how many years has she known this may come true?  Plenty of time to pack the suitcase full of cash and visit some other country banks.

If a PM is responsible for the actions of subordinates, I  assume you agree that Prayuth should then be charged with human trafficking, corruption, treason, murder and all crimes committed by the military under his control.

Of course you dont, you only want selective prosecutions that suit or align with your misguided opinions.

Its only illegal while any political party continues to defeat the preferred military cronies in elections.

It is hard to believe that the Thai people have allowed the constant military interference in politics for almost a decade. It probably wont cease until one of the junta leaders faces the gallows and thus a warning to all future coup leaders.

Thaksin must have really cut into the illegal income streams of the military for this obviously mentally unstable PM to have such hatred where his abuse of all due process is clear and his only response is to rule by threats and force.

KY Potjaman begged Thaksin not to go into politics, pleading that it would only come to no good. Love or hate the Shinawtras, it is indisputable that she was right.

It has now reached the International media outlets. NY times, Economist, Australia +++. This will not please Mr PM at all. Interesting to see the outcome on this one.

I here no crying for these people just a commentary on the fact that she is being screwed and regardless of ones crimes the verdict is not something that comes manufactured prior to any other process of justice.

The saddest thing about all this is hearing the cry's of foul play by the Thai elites who believe only they have the right to loot the countries wealth.

Surely this amounts to theft.  No verdict as yet but punishment already applied.  Has Prayuth already instructed the courts of what decision they must come to?  I agree the rice scheme was a failure and a bad political decision but the actions by Prayuth seems to be a personal vendetta from the start.  Yingluk should have purchased the subs when in power when Prayuth demanded them.  I recall a P.M in Aust who had a failed scheme that cost billions and directly resulted in deaths but that was written off as a bad decision.  Political leaders are appointed by the people to make decisions on their behalf and some are bad ones.  If they aren't appointed by the people and make decisions on their behalf they should be accountable but unfortunately that won't happen to the current bosses in Thailand as they have already given themselves a blanket amnesty.

So correct me if I am wrong! !

There should have been a prosecution of ......

1.Corrupt people in rice scheme.

2.prosecution of yingluck for neglect of duty to control the corruption.

3.confiscation of her assets.

But in lala land. ....

3. Confiscation of assets.

2.prosecution of yl for neglect to control corruption that the case has not been to court yet.

1.prosecution of the corruptors.

I'm no legal expert, but how weird is that ??

She hasn't even made her closing statement yet.

If they didn't want people to think she was being railroaded, all they had to do was to wait for the verdict. Apparently the need for vengeance is strong.

It's all part of his master reconciliation plan.  Remember he said last week if harmony and reconciliation isn't achieved it is the fault of the people and not prayuth or his crew.
