Small breeds yap every time anyone walks past their abode. It's a territory thing, and it is up to the owner to train the dog to keep quiet (if that's the intention of keeping a sociable pet). It does mean the owner needs to take the dog out for a short walk to the park where it can socialise with other dogs and get used to people being around. Unfortunately, not many such small breed owners can be bothered, that's why they bought one to keep at home and in garden.

As for larger breeds, some owners want their dog to pose a threat to intruders, so encourage the dog to bark at strangers. They too, can be trained (both owner and dog). In fact, there is a splendid Thai Ridgeback near where we live who has been trained to keep quiet, but I wouldn't like to go anywhere near his house entrance as he is a fearsome looking beast.

As for the dog-killer, he's clearly a person who has lost it. Perhaps his punishment ought to be (without ear-plugs) compulsory community service on a garbage truck for thee months.

Thais don't give a crap about anyone else as to what they do on their own property (& they would know it was a Falang that complained if they were faced with any action ) as the Thais just bury their head & not cause trouble.

I have a rooster behind me ( not directly ) but the Thai's do nothing ( I guess it shows their brain matter ) & just yesterday a truck came along with the big tents for a Do (here I was thinking it's for a new house around the corner ) BUT NO it was for the house 2 down from me in our Moo Baan. They proceeded to erect a 50 mt awning down the rd from near my gate for one block then they went left & right - I guess they told no one or just dealt with the Thais (not sure what my wife is ) as we had no idea they were going to block the rd of for 2 days

I have a less antagonistic/aggressive view as how one should take care of family (note the spelling) and property (I have both like you).

Being from a family in the north of England I have Viking ancestors too...

Take care how far you protest, there a lot of people with guns and a bad attitude to foreigners in Thailand, and it is rarely one to one...
