I was in there last night for another great meal & they told me that they were closing as of today for a complete refurb & expect to open again in 2 months.

Looking forward to seeing the new place & hopefully they'll sort those loos out.

I will really miss the place as I don't know one anyway near as good in town especially with those prices.

Does anyone know of a similar restaurant to Or-Ah-Hahn-Thai around town?

The ones either side of it are nowhere near as good.

Great spot just off soi 4 in Pratumnak but that only opens during the day

Is this the Thai place that is sort of half way along a Soi connecting two major Soi's?

If so, then everyone seems to rave about it.

Thought I'd bump this one up again as I still have not found a decent Thai restaurant in town in a similar style to Or-Ah-Hahn-Thai which is still under going a refurb.

Any suggestions for a small family run spot from the local gastronomes?

This restaurant is reputedly used by local VIP who orders take aways en masse. The owner chef is reputedly an ex chef for Elton John. If you walk down soi 5 to the A junction with the modernist building, fork right and you will see a large thai garden restaurant which is worth a try.

is Or-Ah-Hahn almost ready to reopen because the two months has almost lapsed?

I have no idea, the shutters were pulled down with the same refurb notice on the front when I went past a few nights ago.

I've eaten there for years (15+) and the quality and service has gotten really bad, fact.

The old couple who started it and used to cook most of the time are pleasant along with one of their elder daughters who is also one of the chef's.

My last visit sat down and had the son or son in law bark at me in English "Order Yet" and pretty much knew it was the beginning of an end.

That's sign of the way a lot of youngsters treat people nowadays but it was still the best cheap eats spot about IMO.

I passed by yesterday afternoon around 3pm & it was tumbleweeds.

Shutters firmly locked down but more disheartening to notice that there was no sign whatsoever of any work being done on the place.

Local builders aren't know for their tidiness & apart from from a dusty step there was no debris.

I know the old lady hadn't been well & she had a procedure recently so I do hope that she's ok

Any updates on this?

I went past a few days ago and quite honestly it doesn't look like there   is any refurbishment activity going on. ( In fact it doesn't look like there has been any). In the good old days when we got to October it used to be very busy.

If you are looking for an alternative, there is a similar hole in the wall place almost across from LK Metro on Buakao.  It's cheap and kinda cramped and you can expect to share your table during the most busy times.

Where exactly is that spot lapd?

Brooklyn Diner is right there, do you have a name for this restaurant please?

I was in Pattaya Tai this afternoon & wander over to see if there were works ongoing.

Nothing but dust & locked shutters so no work is being done to the place.

Just one of the branches of 'Pak boong loy fa' .

Always found them pricey for what you get, and food is pretty touristy bland.

Certainly pricey for the cheap decor it has IMO.

Some of the best local fare is in places without expensive "decor"....or do you go to eat at places for the furniture?

Hence why I think Pak Boong Loy Faa serves Street Food at Touristy Restaurant prices.

I don't think they're all the same ownership or menus.

In any case, I'm not a big fan of that place on 3rd road but the one near the mall on Klang is quite good.

Can you be more specific please JT about the place near Klang?

I know I'm thick but can you give me a more detailed description on where it is. I'm always looking for a cheap place to take the wife. Not being a cheap charlie but I find that if we go to a European restaurant she always orders (cheap) Thai and a luxurious decor doesnt impress. Her favorite was The Fish (all you can eat b-b-q 199 baht).
