Ok, let's calculate: 9000 arrivals divided by 15 open counters multiplied by 5 minutes per person divided by 60 minutes per hour gives a queue time of how many hours? OMG! Did I miss something?

Holy crap.  Yes, you and I know how to use a calculator.  That was a shock!  I'm assuming the good PM and his fellow bureaucrats can only count on their fingers, and any calculation above the number 10 is probably is over their heads.  Now they probably have commissioned various departments to work on the figures, but these are the same departments who are no doubt in CYA mode. First priority: Save Face!  Second priority: well, with enough time hopefully the public with forget, and foreigners don't count as real people anyway.  So, 2nd priority, ignore the problem and talk about buying submarines again or discuss what designer dress Yingluck is wearing to her next court appearance.

The new TM6 form looks as if it requires exactly the same amount of entries as the old TM6 form.
That should help...

The only difference is that you'll need your glasses to be able to fill it in.

I guess he meant 5 minutes once you get to the Immigration Officer--conveniently overlooking the several hours you have shuffled along to get there.  Adding 8 more counters will do little to help with the long lines.  And, heads up, delayed flights are not "rare".

It doesn't say that every person takes 5 minutes to process.

It states that 5 minutes is the average time to pass through immigration.

A very big difference

An average is the average. Some longer and some shorter. It gives an idea of delay.

geeeze .... The PM is addressing the situation as priority but still the farang whinges show up.   Get a life for christ sake ....  :coffee1:

Actually I believe this is his major concern and not a few thousand foreigners standing in line for hours with children, no toilet or refreshments.  Social media making it public internationally is his major concern.  The wellbeing of visitors isn't even on his list of concerns.

He also urged people not to criticise the previous incident too intensively, particularly on social media. “What they say will cause damage to the tourism industry,” he said.

Much the same at land  crossings. Guy yesterday at Sadao took a good 5 minutes with my non o visa asked many questions and finally put the exit date under the entry stamp. 8 counters only 3 officals working..

Did you read what he said?

Do you agree with him on his @#$%^& up remarks about "normally taking five minutes"?

He was not addressing the situation: he held his face into a camera, with no idea, what he was talking about and no real interest in solving it!

Yes- this was an isolated incident, because it took 4- 5 hours to clear immigration.

In reality it is "only" about 2 hours, as if that wasn't a reason to investigate and change things.

Go back under your bridge and stay there, please!

If it takes 5 minutes per person and you are number 10 in the line that is 50 minutes before you have cleared immigration. That us way too long.

Yes. It often takes only five minutes....ONCE YOU GET TO A COUNTER!!!

Is he deliberately ignoring that it takes hours sometimes to get there?

Last time through there were hand written signs posted claiming forty five minutes wait.

My GF as a Thai citizen had whistled through in, yeah, about five minutes.

One of the IO folks who was on the bounce noticed I was wobbling a bit on my cane and pulled me out of line to go through the Thai side.

Yes, Sir. (Say anything else and you risk getting accused of sedition. (www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/996289-khaosod-english-reporter-charged-with-sedition-reports-to-police)

The Cabinet resolution allows the use of the old TM6 form, which has two separate sections for arrivals and departures, to be used until September 30. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports requested the delay to adjust to the new form to help the agency in its analysis and planning of tourism marketing strategies.

Ministry of Tourism marketing strategies. Seeing that the new TM.6 asks for my phone number and email address I shall look forwarded to receiving marketing calls and emails. Thank you very much.

There are big differences in the marketing information being collected by the Ministry of Tourism and Sport. For example, the new TM.6 no longer gives you the opportunity to brag about your income bracket, but you must give your phone number and email address. However, as these two fields are directly below "Address in Thailand", I plan to give the phone number and email address of the hotel where I shall be staying.

I did it slightly differently to your good self but got the same result, looks like everyone had a very lucky short wait at immigration :cheesy:

Prayuth issuing an order, is a bit like Trump making a declaration. I am going to build a wall. I am going to shut down immigration into the US. I am going to bring back jobs. I am going to stop outsourcing (meanwhile between all of his companies, and his daughters company, not a single product is made in the US), I am going to make America great again. Yeah, right.

It just does not mean anything. It is a massive amount of hot air, coming out of a very small, but loud mouth, that never stops yapping, and spouting nonsense, that nobody listens to.

If Malaysian Immigration can process each overseas visitor in less than half a minute, why does it take ten times longer for Thailand to do the same?  :shock1:

Long queues for foreigners to have their passports stamped by immigration police at Suvarnabhumi airport at 4pm today. The waiting time was about 2 hours. A great start to that dream holiday.

All situations and instances at Swampy will differ one from the next.

Impossible to display comparative examples.
