Workers have been dispatched to clean a 100-metre-long section of North Pattaya Beach, which has been blighted by sanitary problems, allegedly due to homeless people squatting in the area.

Piles of garbage, human waste and drug-taking paraphernalia found in several large pipes on the beach, have been cleared from the area dubbed “Haad Plod Took” (beach for self-release).

Pattaya City's special affairs division head Khomkrit Polvichien said the area was within a Marine Department sand-filling project site which had been sealed off to the public. As the project was still not yet done, homeless people have taken over the workers’ huts and lived in them without proper sanitation, he said.

Khomkrit has ordered the huts to be torn down and said he would ask the project site management to hire security guards to monitor for the area.

He was confident the problem has been resolved and pointed out that council workers routinely clean its beaches every Wednesday.

There where squatters living in the workers huts,so where are all the workers living...maybe they should hurry up and finish the "beach nourishment" and return the use of the beach to the general public.

The beaches should be cleaned every day not once a week

Once in a blue moon would be an improvement on a lot of beaches.

Where exactly are we talking of here, I can only think of around the Dusit?

About 500 metres north of the Dusit. Hotel guests should just be far enough not to "enjoy the smells"

Just like the beaches in London?

The pristine white sand beaches of London are cleaned every day by the Beefeaters (when they are not guarding the Crown Jewels). The Chelsea pensioners keep the palm trees trimmed and have first dibs on any fallen coconuts.

All the London beaches belong to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. She and Prince Philip can be seen tidying up the discarded fish and chip wrappers and setting out the deckchairs most mornings before the tourists arrive.

I hope the police in Jomtien get off their butts and send the squatters out of that part of Thailand

as well.  555  I sure won't hold my breath on that one though.
