I assume you meant the baht to the dollar exchange rate going down. That is the dollar going down in value in relation to baht. The baht has gained value in relation to it.

The dollar has lost value in relation to many currencies.

You took the words right off my keypad Joe.

I have jokenly explained that it is to gain a favorable price on the missles Thailand is buying from the US military industrial complex. I wonder if they will pay the 100% customs duty on the items 555. :spam1::sorry:

All I know is since trumpalumpa took office the dollar has been declining. While this may be good for US businesses, it sucks for me, my measly pension and social security is losing $146.00 a month now. And my cost of living is increasing.

The baht is going up, up, up or more accurately the US dollar is going down down down.

No. Actually the dollar lost 3 point something percent this year against the major currencies after making substantial gains last year. Its much more a matter of the Baht getting strong than the dollar getting weak since the Baht has gained almost 8 percent against the dollar this year. And the Baht has increased more against the dollar than any other Asian currency. The dollar has declined mostly due to interest rate expectations. All last year the Fed rate increased and there were expectations there would be more increases. Then this year the speculation is there won't be any more increase this year because inflation continues to be so low.

The Baht is another story. Don't know what is going on there. But I read somewhere about a year ago that the Thai private debt in dollars was over 1/3 the total GDP of Thailand. A huge amount. Those debt payments cost less with a strong Baht.

The rates go up and down. I remember maybe 4 years ago the Baht went briefly below 29/dollar. And then it was above 36 late last year/beginning of this year.. If you could predict rate changes you could make a huge amount of money. Who knows what the rate will be the end of the year.

I don't know what graphs you are looking at but here is the one year dollar to baht from xe currency this chart shows a significant drop in the value of the US dollar. Perhaps you are looking at HK Dollar or Singapore Dollar

Sorry my friend my post was not clear, I was referring to the £ to the THB not the dollar.

Apologies offered.

What I was taught (can't remember the reason) when stock market prices rise $ value decreases, and vise versa....so it' may be the dollar getting weaker than baht strengthening

Since I saw it at 35.5-36 when I began considering 35 years of retirement. I picked 92 to die.  This has reduced my funds by nearly 10% or 3.5 years of safety factor has evaporated.   I not like this to much.

Well you got me curious so I just looked uno the transaction.

March 11th I was debited  12,227.36 Baht

Finally got my refund on Aug 9th for 10,785.24

I guess there was some exchange fees included, but it was a PayPal transaction connected to my K Bank CC.

There is a lot of gold leaving Thailand on planes.....A LOT

the gold is stolen by species 4287 from the Delta Quadrant. they need it to produce goldpressed Latinum bars which they use to trade with the Ferengis who use the Latinum to pay the FED, the Bank of Thailand and the Bank of England for manipulating exchange rates... A LOT. :coffee1:

Try 33:1 in 1985! For now the pound has fallen against dollar (since the Brexit vote) the dollar has fallen against most other currencies, including the baht this year.

And where would the pound be if the dollar had not fallen over the same period, or heaven forbid, if it had appreciated.

I see no evidence of the BHT Weakening against the £

The pound to baht relationship tends to follow the pound to dollar relationship, if the pound drops against the dollar it will drop against the baht and vv.

I know the graph is a bit old but you would see the same similarity over any period in time.

In 1985 the USD was very strong against everything. Below is the DXY history:

Well almost everything. At that time the baht was basically pegged to the USD at 25. This all changed in 1997!!!

about 1.5c over the year, not that "significant" I feel plus taking 1 currency example can lead to  problems.

Obviously not clear enough.

Where would the pound be if the dollar had not fallen since the referendum,or heaven forbid, if it had appreciated.

Topic is re THB but that is obviously not what you are really interested in here. The DXY is actually only slightly lower now than it was just before the referendum. It rose from then until December then fell back again. Clear enough?
