Beats56
That is pretty stiff sentence. How can they change max of 10 years to 42 years. I guess they can do what they want. Yingluck. Was probably right to leave.

Given the tendency of very guilty people to do a runner, I hope that he doesn't get it. 42 years might be a bit excessive, but he was quite happy to defraud the country of massive sums of money, so som nam na. Payback is indeed a bitch. BP article says no bail, on account of the gravity of the crime. Probably also has something to do with losing enough convicts for one day. Krataiboy
Yeah, but. . . If the vanishing lady has done a runner an awful lot of people must have been deliberately looking the other way. But why not? As my boyhood hero, Baldy Hogan of the Rover, used to say: it's results that count. At a stroke, our esteemed leaders have got another irksome Shinawatra out of their hair without making her a martyr and possibly stirring up a peasant's revolt. Nice one. Out of sight, of course, means out of mind. Just as with her fugitive big brother, in a few years hardly anyone will even remember who Yingluck was - let alone how badly she overcooked the rice. TallGuyJohninBKK
Same story as usual. The minions are left holding the bag (punishment) while the bigshots (the Shinawatras) skate away out of the country. Re the prison sentences, those are ALMOST as long as the illegal mushroom pickers got a while back. But unlikely they'll serve all of them, courtesy of typical sentence reductions and potential royal pardons down the line. That is, if they don't do runners on bail beforehand. snoop1130
Boonsong escorted to jail By Wasamon Audjarint The Nation Former commerce minister Boonsong Teriyapirom, his ex-deputy Poom Sarapol and 16 other defendants were escorted to Bangkok Special Prison on Friday after being found guilty of offences relating to a bogus government-to-government deal under the Yingluck Shinawatra-led administration’s rice-pledging scheme. The Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders sentenced Boonsong to 42 years in jail, Poom to 36 years, former director-general to the Foreign Trade Department Manas Soiploy to 40 years, his ex-deputy Tikaporn Natvorathat to 32 years, ex-director of the Foreign Rice Trading Office Akrapong Theepvajara to 24 years, and rice dealer Apichart Chansakulporn to 48 years. Looking stressed, Boonsong walked to the prison truck without speaking to reporters. Prior to hearing the verdict, he said he had prepared cash for bail as well as a plan to appeal the ruling if it went against him. “I’ve done my best to fight in the case,” he said. The escorting of the defendants from the court was carried out under strict security by the police, with supporters of the Pheu Thai Party waiting for the verdict in front of the courthouse. However, there was no disturbance from those in the crowd, who merely booed when the prison truck drove by. Thousands of supporters had originally been present mainly to provide moral support to ex-PM Yingluck, but their numbers lessened after it was clear that she was not going to show up at the court.
