Fugitive Yingluck’s location still a mystery, says Foreign Ministry

BANGKOK: -- The Foreign Ministry is still in the dark regarding the whereabouts of ex-premier Yingluck Shinawatra who is believed to have fled the country to escape a possible jail term for her alleged negligence in the rice-pledging scandal.

Fugitive Yingluck’s location still a mystery, says Foreign MinistryForeign Minister Don Pramudwinai said that when Thai authorities know Yingluck’s location, they will ask for cooperation from the country concerned.

“However as of now, we don’t know,” Don told reporters.

He added that the ministry has already contacted some countries that Yingluck is reported to have fled to.

There are many unconfirmed reports of Yingluck’s escape route and destination. One popular destination is Dubai in the United Arab Emirates where her brother, former PM Thaksin Shinawatra, has been in self-imposed exile for years.

Another possibility is London, where she reportedly plans to seek asylum.

Don said the ministry has not yet been contacted by other authorities concerning Yingluck’s whereabouts as they have their own processes.

doubt we will hear from her till after the judges issue the results of the court case. Has she gone or is she hiding, one really has to wonder about her though, telling her voters she would not run because she is innocent(running then confirms guilt) and leaving her son as well, says a real lot about her principles or lack of them. She cannot claim innocence after doing this, she simply cant accept the truth of her guilt like her brother, needs to be brought back down to earth in a big way

Her son has a father.  Sure he and the army of servants are more than capable of looking after him.

The Thai legal system is not free of political intrigue, and being pursued by those who are answerable to no one really does not make her flight seem all that incriminating.  The rice scheme was dumb but criminal ?

It is also rather hard to fathom how the junta and all the scary, nameless men they have at their disposal could let her schlep out of the country.

Why are you bothering to argue with a tape recording?

Others might agree with the tape recording.

Undoubtedly, but what we are witnessing here is a wall of noise. Categorical statements made without supporting evidence and constant doubling down of such claims.

However this is the post truth world we are living in, I suppose. Not much in the way of actual discussion, just Win Win Win all the time, at all costs and let the truth be damned should it prove inconvenient.

Well, the endless hate and polarization you see on this forum and in Bangkok makes you wonder what Thailand will be like in a few years.  It is far less welcoming and direction-less today .

Not wishing to ask the obvious, but have they actually gotten the warrant to check inside her house in BKK yet?  That's where I'd start the search.

According to a news report I read yesterday or today in another topic, the police said that they cannot request a search warrant until they know at which of her many residences in Thailand Yingluck planned her "escape"

Has the Thai government heard of Google? A quick google search brought up several new agencies reporting her in Dubai, here's the CNN & BBC links:

http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/25/asia/yingluck-shinawatra-flees-thailand/index.html

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-41059887

If you read the links, they both quote some unverifiable source in the PTP. Information is from inside Thailand, and about as reliable as the PMs fortune tellers, it is not from Dubai...

For all we know her ashes may be dumped in a swamp somewhere, or used as additive in a concrete factory.

She is prob with the red bull heir living in same house They dont want to find her Saves them a lots of trouble as she is seen by her supporters as a person who let them down So there will be no trouble for the Junta Just shows you corruption in Thailand at the highest level is alive and well. Were the people not promised by this Junta they would stamp out corruption? It has got worse

They helped her escape no doubts about it to save trouble in the streets Let just call it a "gentleman's agreement I will scratch your back if you scratch mine

"......proper election"

Well Captain, I applaud your supreme optimism. The chances off a proper election, or indeed any election, seem to be fast diminishing.

After all Prayut Can-o-cha has now announced his absolute power which means to quote him...."I can do whatever I like".

Which could be interpreted as..... "I am in control and it is going to stay that way so I can carry through my 20 year plans".

Why else would he make grandiose 20 year plans if a democratically elected government could trash them once in power.

I agree 'cept the "running then confirms guilt"  part - she may have ran because she got an advance call about the verdict 'Guilty' and Jail time.  Just because she was found guilty doesn't mean she was guilty of the crimes accused.  This was a Kangaroo Court from the start, I only find her guilty of being stupid by letting her party and the cronies take advantage of her, and not having the intestinal fortitude to stand up to them.  They are the ones that profited and will see their day in court soon enough, if they don't do a runner themselves. (too many to name).

Come on. Her son was likely left with her husband. Does everyone forget she is married. And why has the husband not been interviewed.  This doesn't make sense you would think that would be the first choice of a investigation. Something doesn't smell.right here.

As already mentioned.  Very easy to know where she is if you have access to passport information and flight numbers which have been booked using that passport.  Doesn't exactly take a genius.  Everyone has to use a passport to book a flight as well as to exit and enter a country.  They know where she is, just are just telling more lies.

No, genius.  NOT everyone.   Just the vast majority who play by the rules, because they can't afford and haven't the means not to.  Do you actually imagine Shinawatras using Expedia, CheapOair, and Latestays like the common folk or what?

No dipshit.  But regardless of who they pay and bribe in Thailand it won't help them with immigration in a foreign country.  They still need to enter and exit through immigration.  Even diplomats and royalty (except for the Queen of England) have to abide by immigration and customs rules when travelling.  So yes there will be a paper trail of where she is.
