Nigerian denies shooting Russian woman in Phuket break-in

PHUKET: -- Police have brought in a Nigerian man for questioning over the shooting of Russian expat Elena Kharenko, 52, at her home in Rawai early Wednesday morning (Aug 30).

 

Officers took Nigerian national James Chukwunweike Chijioke, 27, into custody at a house in Soi Jailek-Samakkee 2 in the Saiyuan area of Rawai at about 10pm last night (Aug 31).

 

In the house officers found a collection of items later identified as stolen from another house in Rawai on July 26.

Hmmm, could they have been planted there, does his shoe size and pattern match the blood stained foot prints found in the victims property that was reported earlier, did they find the gun to match the bullets.

 

“The CCTV in Ms Kharenko’s house was not working, but police have reviewed CCTV from a neighbour,” Gen Teeraphol explained.

Gen Teeraphol did not elaborate on any leads gained from the CCTV footage, or about any vehicle that may have been used in the armed break-in, but he did confirm police were seeking just one suspect for the attack.

“First is theft, and the second is that Ms Kharenko or her husband were involved in some kind of conflict,” he said. Could this have been a set up from the husband, i.e. does she have a life insurance policy with him as the beneficiary ?
“She was alone in the house at the time, her husband was not at home,” Lt Chanat said.
 

Ms Kharenko said she saw only one man in the house, and that his face was not covered, said Lt Chanat.
Hmm, what colour was he ?

 

A gold bar that also went missing from her house the same day was not among the evidence presented, Ms Sasithorn noted. Not going to comment on that as we know where that is 555

 

To little reporting of the matter, flawed IMO, either way gives the Burmese a break.

Nigerian arrested for burglaries in Phuket

PHUKET: -- Phuket police have arrested a Nigerian man for allegedly robbing and shooting a Russian woman in the island-province as well as breaking into several houses there.

Chijioke James Chukwunweike, 27, was arrested at a rented house in Moo 2 village in Tambon Rawai in Phuket’s Muang district on Thursday night. Police found a lot of valuables at the rented house, believed to have been stolen.

 

The Nigerian man denied robbing or attacking the Russian woman. 

 

The woman, Elena Kharenko, said she woke up at around 3.30am on August 30 and saw burglars inside her luxurious house near the Rawai beach. She was shot when she shouted for help. The thieves carried away a safe box and other valuables.

 

Phuket police chief Pol Colonel Akanit Danphithaksat himself went to the Chalong Police Station to interrogate the suspect.

 

Several house owners in the Rawai area, whose houses had been burgled, also came to the police station to check the seized valuables. One of them, Sasithorn Temphan, 39, identified a Louis Vuitton handbag and two luxury watches as belonging to her.

Suspect arrested over shooting robbery in Rawai

Several people who got robbed in the same area insisted that some valuables found in Chijcke's house belong to them.

 

PHUKET: -- A 27 years old Nigerian, Chijcke Jamer Hukwunwe, has been charged over the alleged shooting/robbery of Russian woman, Elena Kharenko, in Rawai on August 30.

 

He was found in a house in Rawai at 7.30pm last night (August 31) with many valuables such as gold necklaces, watches and some cash following the investigation of CCTV footage near the crime scene. Police found the suspected car, a Toyota Vios with plate number ขก-2677, Khonkaen province, leaving from the robbed house to Soi Samakkee 2 connecting with Soi Kamin Thong and located the suspect’s house.

seriously though, I nearly freaked out the first time I encountered assault rifles in an airport ( Singapore perhaps).... but that was a long time ago, and nowadays, I would seriously question the standards of any (lawful) force that did not use assault weapons. (That said... I'm still seriously anti assault weapons in the hands of the general public... very OTT as a recreational tool)

Given the 'what's wrong with the picture' treatment, why is the female on the couch not in handcuffs? Have the police already ruled her out as a suspect, hence no handcuffs? Have they already established that she had nothing to do with the crime, including helping to plan the break in or decide on the potential victim?

If you read the articles it seems straight forward. The Nigerian' girlfriend's car was seen leaving the house where the woman was shot after the incident. Neighbours state that the man often goes driving around the neighbourhood at night time.
