Mae Sot Police intercept drug consignment hidden in pickup fuel tank

Mae Sot police are enforcing tighter regulations against modification garages after intercepting narcotic smugglers attempting to transport 20,000 Amphetamine pills hidden in their vehicles fuel tank.

The deputy commander of the Tak provincial police, Pol Lt Col Rapeepong Sukpiboon (รพีพงษ์ สุขไพบูลย), reported today (Jan 5) that Mae Sot district police and custom officials under his commmand have successfully intercepted a drug consignment of 20,000 amphetamine pills hidden in the fuel tank of a pickup vehicle. The arrest of the vehicles driver also led police to further arrests of 2 suspects in Suphanburi province.

The 3 suspects admitted that they were hired by Mr. Surapol Sawangdee (สุรพล สว่างดี), who paid them 100,000 baht to transport the drugs from Mae Sot district in Tak province to Suphanburi province.

Pol Lt Col Rapeepong added that due to the new narcotic smuggling method police will be enforcing tighter regulations, including arrests of mechanics in local car garages that specialize in vehicle modifications in order to prevent similar future incidents.
