When we lived in the US we hired a handyman to do some work on our house. The next week he was shot dead by his son. His son had asked him for some money and he didn't give it to him.

Because the Thai baht isn't one of the chosen currencies. What percentage of world reserves are in Thai baht ? Not even .1%. While the Canadian dollar for example is 2% of global reserves. And the Euro is 60% and so on. The game is completely rigged against the have-nots. They were poor when they were dual debtors. And they are still poor when they are creditors

Thanks for all the great replies. Much appreciated. I will have to sit down with my wife's daughter who is great with smart phones, and decide which of all these great recommendations would be most beneficial for my needs to get text messages from financial institutions in the U.S for 2FA so I can then access my accounts.

True, the celebrity cult in America is idiotic. However, the political and religious cults that have sprung up there are more than mindless, they have become extremely dangerous to everyone on the planet. The farcical film, Idiocracy, was mentioned in a news story I was reading this morning. For some years I've also been of the opinion that it has become more of a documentary about the failed states of America. For the smartest country on earth, it has vast swathes of the stupidest people to ever draw breath. Many of whom bleat their versions of idiocracy on this forum. I often wonder how many of them actually live here

You certainly do enjoy waffling on about nothing. I don't care about Japanese software design. I sat in one of those chairs at a Holiday Inn in Bangkok for a couple of days and it was so comfortable that I bought one. At that time they were available on Lazada for about 7000 baht for a basic model. My website link is a Thailand-based website. Even if you don't look, others might be interested. You said you were going to relocate to Japan. When is that likely to happen?

They initially registered 66. I suspect they were pushed on the dealers as demonstrators. They are appalling VFM so I would only be mildly surprised if they didn’t sell any at all. I am also surprised about the Changan Saloon, I don’t like SUV’s but it appears I am in a minority. -
I've been intensely reading about Buddha and his deep philosophical teachings lately, nowhere have I come across such rubbish in his discourses, this 'monk' doesn't know his Buddha from his Mickey mouse. It would seem it is enough to put on a saffron robe and call yourself a monk without ever studying his work. His brilliant teachings on 'non-self' and the 'world is empty' sound counter intuitive if one goes by the title alone. He didn't seem to have a spiritual message as such, certainly no beliefs in magic, his aim was to relieve suffering in mankind in the here and now by teaching how to live in a correct manner. Over 2,500 years much has been added to his teachings as they were only written down 400 years after his death having been passed down orally, his rejection of an Atman or soul would indicate a denial of reincarnation although he did consider rebirth, the distinction he showed by lighting a new candle from a dying one, the flame (life) is passed on but the new candle (person) is entirely different. No religions or philosophical teachings improve with time, the true message gets lost and buried, see Christianity as an example, Jesus was a Jew and Jews don't believe in heaven or hell.

The 'maid' better pray the media circus goes away quickly, or people will start asking how the French women is able to own land, next thing the government will be forced to act and scrutinize use of shell companies to hold land for the whole island -

Thailand is big, Europe is even bigger. IMHO it's not the same anywhere in the whole country or the whole continent. I live since almost 30 years in Thailand and in general I think people are still friendly. But we are no exotic creatures anymore like we used to be many years ago. So, there is less curiosity involved. And then there are mobile phones. Many employees in shops and restaurants and bars are much more interested in their little phones than in people. And then it depends on the area. It makes a difference if you are in an area which is full of tourists or somewhere where foreign visitors are still the exception.
