Two more egg merchants report dozens of eggs stolen
topt replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
Did you read to the end of the linked article? Thief, fraud, con whatever. I don't find him clever at all. -
Thanks for responding. Yes that would have been nice but appears not to be the case here unfortunately.

In the Pattaya area courses greens are seemingly regularly sanded without coring having taken place - or at least not noticeably in the past. This appears to be fairly normal practice. I do agree that in many cases I wonder why at certain courses the greens can look in places like they have set the cutters too low and you have bare earth but the rest of the green is good...... When cored and sanded some courses greens seemingly can take multiple weeks to get back to a decent condition but other courses are in good condition very quickly........I have no idea if different grass types make much difference or is it just down to the greenkeepers.........

Interest withholding tax

Perhaps the system hasn't been set up for the EZ savings type as is the case for Fixed Deposit accounts across most if not all Thai banks? I know I have it set up for my SCB savings accounts and I believe also for my Jad Tem account with them. -
Bank account in euros
topt replied to Aforek's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Unlikely unless he changes a very big chunk in one go and then what is the point....... I presume you are taking about a Foreign Currency Deposit Account.? When you transfer into your Thai Baht account you only get the banks current exchange rate - possibly the TT rate but I cannot remember. -
I can recommend Andrew who is normally based at Phoenix but does also work elsewhere. 0825194591 He is also on Line. Charges were 1500 baht per 50 minutes or so. If interested I would book 1 lesson and see what you think and he may give a discount if you want multiple lessons. He has the benefit to me, and a couple of others I know, that he does not try to shoehorn you into a specific swing style.

My understanding is you don't have to queue just to pick up your passport - I haven't last couple of years anyhow.

The house I am in has about 5/6 RJ11 sockets wired up presumably as originally had a land line. I think I know the answer but thought I would pose it anyhow. Can I use the wiring for anything else useful - I won't be getting a land line ? There are 4 wires connected.

Why - what does Pakistan really offer? Apart from militant Islam and barrel loads of jihadists......supposedly "supported" by the Pakistani intelligence service.

Disclaimer - I don't have an android box but have been looking at getting one. In reading some reviews most seem to come with at least Android 9 - which is over 3 years old. The example above appears to be only Android 6 - potentially is this an issue a few years down the road with app compatibility?

Is this just a personal view or do you have any references as it is not something I have ever heard before - unlike with the Chinese?
-
What makes you say that? For example India and China have been at loggerheads for years over a disputed border area. https://www.mapsofindia.com/my-india/india/top-5-reasons-of-tension-between-india-and-china I think Thailand is doing its tightrope walk in the middle...........

Markets shake out
topt replied to Sparktrader's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
So illuminating..... What was the point of the post? -
Sorry but I think you have misunderstood. The OECD note is from 2020 and was what Thailand said they would do then. What we have been saying is that there is nothing that says that the details have been finally ratified in Thailand such that it will happen from 2023. It may still happen then but........

PTT, Bangchak to cut petrol prices by 3 baht/litre from Friday
topt replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
No - I guess because the price has been capped so lower than it would otherwise have been. I was hoping as well........... -
I was replying to other posters. However, to address your point, if you have the right paperwork set up in advance I believe some posters successfully send money out to foreign accounts via online banking with Bangkok Bank. I don't know personally as I don't bank with them. Suggest you read up on their web site or visit a few branches to ask if you haven't already. Some other posters may chip in if you say who you are currently banking with in Thailand?

No idea if possible or not. Someone who has a Wise account may be able to look at the specifics if interested. Just taken a few minutes to look at the info they provide on their site and it looks like a .55% commission on Thai baht to GBP and a rate this minute at 43.29 equivalent - for a 1m baht transfer. Using current Bangkok bank rate (but not including any extra charges they may make) and Wise rates/commission there is less that £100 difference on a million baht. Adding in any extra fees say £150 max difference. An individual would have to do the maths on whatever amount you were looking at to see if worthwhile to them - presuming that it is actually possible to do as you suggest.
-
The BKK bank rate is also for transferring GBP from abroad to Thailand so comparable to "this way" with Wise. For transferring out you need to look at the selling rate which is always higher as they divide that into the baht to get your pounds.... No real point in comparing with Wise as you can't transfer out with Wise. Not sure there is any simple and safe option other than using SWIFT bank to bank for outward transfer for large (ie more than 1 million baht) amounts. Dee Money possibly as mentioned but I believe there is an 800k baht cap and not sure on fees.

Interest withholding tax
topt replied to peterfranks's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Individual banks or staff. I had SCB add mine last year or the one before and now interest is added but no tax taken - just checked June statement and that is what happened. The individual banks won't know what other banks you have earned interest and unlikely Thai Revenue will check individually unless you come to their attention. The same would probably happen in the west. You are responsible for declaring it on a tax form. As long as your total "income" is below I think 150k baht there is no tax to pay anyhow. -
Best way to buy GBP cash?
topt replied to MRToMRT's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Because the rates are usually never as good as the independent money changers mentioned. -
