How to become a Samuian (Girl version)
phetphet replied to slabejmarek's topic in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao
I have been coming to Samui since 1994. The demographic changes as some countries get richer or poorer and can afford to travel further, or tourists move on to the next hip destination. Since the Covid lockdowns were partially lifted and the government pushed Thais to travel more in their own country, more and more Bangkokians have been visiting Samui. At one point, some places like Sala Chaweng, and Coco Tams were full of almost 100% Thai tourists. Now the numbers of European and US tourists are on the up again. Traffic is heavier mainly because of that. Also the inevitable tourist motorbike accidents. All that being said. Even though Chaweng is looking busier nowadays. It still looks a bit of an eyesore as one drives through. Many more new businesses seem to be opening up everywhere on the island now. -
The only stories that I have read or heard about here regarding extremely rich older Thai ladies was about keeping a stable of young, good looking, fit Thai men to service them at their whim. One story I read, can't remember where, said they all lived in her large house, she paid them very well, bought all their clothes, and chose whichever one she wanted on any particular night.

15-year-old motorcyclist collides with dog and dies
phetphet replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
See them all the time. Sometime three or even four up. Usually in their school uniforms on their way to or from school. As for this lad. 5:30 in the morning in his boxers. Likely on an errand, and speeding on an empty road. Dogs here, often run out at bikes and cause many accidents. -
I 'm all for wearing masks. but lately, with the drop off in cases, and the relaxation of rules, I hardly do so now. Yesterday I was stopped from entering K-Bank for not wearing one and had none under the motorbike seat. No problem. Just walked away. It seems to be policy at their branches. Up to them. It's their property I am entering.

The batteries normally seem to be stored under the floor, so unless a sealed, watertight compartment, I can't see them fairing too well.

Cabinet set to decide on 300 baht fee for foreign tourists
phetphet replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I wonder how the insurance aspect of this will work. Because that is the only part of this fee that any tourist will be interested in. Say a tourist had a motorbike accident near Bumrungrad for example. Could they be taken in and treated for their injuries there with no worries? "It's OK. Don't worry. I have insurance with the Thai government scheme. Paid for when I bought my air ticket." -
It's the Koh Samui branch of Kumon. I believe there is only one here on the island. They can teach maths in both English and Thai, but also offer lessons teaching English language and Thai language. She is Thai, but I would say her main language is English, as we speak it at home. But she is trilingual.

Fashion trend. Used to, and still do see lots of Thai women of all ages and sizes in the shops or talat dressed like this. Lately have seen a lot of pale skinned asian tourists wandering around the local Central shopping mall dressed in what look like pyjamas. Normally printed in well know fashion brand names such as Gucci or Chanel. Loose fitting and cool in the heat I suppose.

Giving 1 star to a restaurant in Muang Kao.

It might have been better if you had also left a comment saying why you had only given one star. At least that way he could see why and could rectify the problem if he so desired. -

Before I had the wallet, I just used to use the Chat option and ask them to give me any refund as Lazada Vouchers. I then used them for future purchases.

Talking about tyres ageing in another thread got me thinking. Has anyone else noticed how badly and quickly things seem to degrade here in Thailand? Mainly plastic and oil based materials. I'm not talking about solar UV damage which is another problem. Many of these are items that have been kept in a drawer or cupboard in those sealed plastic storage boxes. I am talking everything from casings of dive computers, Garmin GPS device, linings in backpacks, even the feet on my laptop protective case. some turn to powder, other to a sticky mush. The case on my hardly used Garmin Nuvo first turned sticky, and bits started falling off. Now it is covered in a white powder. I tried cleaning a small area with alcohol, but no joy. The water resistant lining in my Osprey backpack started to break away in small, tea leaf like flakes. Not sure what is causing it. Heat? Humidity? Does anyone know? Is there anything that can be done to avoid it? Keeping everything in a temperature and humidity controlled room is not really feasible. See image of the black coming off my computer case feet at this moment:

As FriendlyFarang said. They are probably getting rid of old stock. Be careful of this. Even sitting on the shelf, the rubber hardens as it ages and becomes brittle. I found out the 'hard' way. Pun intended. I ordered some Goodyear tyres off of Lazada. Had them fitted at a local garage and he told me they were old and brittle. A chunk of rubber came off as I sat watching him fit them. I think you can look at a code on the tyre wall to see which year they were manufactured. These were two or three years old if I recall correctly.

I think that is out of date information. I am not a Thai citizen and I have had a Lazada Wallet for almost two years. Admittedly, I used to get that message about only being for Thai citizens, but it has changed. In fact Lazada refunded me to my Wallet only two weeks ago after I received the wrong item. Here are the Terms and Conditions if anyone really wants to read them. But No.2 Registration should give you all the requirements. +1. I am not thai and I also have Lazada Wallet. There used to be a rule that it was only for Thais, but that was dropped about 18 months ago. OP. you will have to provide ID items as requested. Probably Thai money laundering or anti fraud laws. But it works for refunds once set up.

Hot climate or cold. I get up and pee almost every night around 2 or 3 am. Might be to do with drinking a large glass of water before going to bed. i would say it's better to have to get up and go than to be dehydrated.

Seems a bit pointless for this article to talk about the bivalent vaccine here in Thailand when they don't have a clue when it will be available here. "Thailand should receive the latest generation of vaccines next year." gives us a three to fifteen month window from now. If I can get one next time I am out of the country I will. Not because I think it will give me immunity. I caught C-19 while triple vaccinated. But because I think it will lessen the severity of any infection.
