  1. And in this case the chick wasn't free either 😞 People, supposedly intelligent people, still fall for the Nigerian Prince/General/Bank president who wants to give you <insert large sum here>, you just have to pay bank fees up front
  2. What's a "growler", we have two "Yappers" but when they "growl" it's almost comical 🙂 EDIT Wiki answered my question https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Growler_(electrical_device) Never come across one, but I've never been into motors either.
  3. I would use a long traily lead as your reference, then you can determine if each wire is ok (do check for shorts to other wires). Without seeing the system in the flesh it's awfully difficult to diagnose, ignore wire colours other than for finding the same wire at the other end, they mean nothing as to function. Your unknown white, could be a neutral feed to "something". First check the continuity between the light fitting and the known "other end" of each wire. Start at the light that works and work along the circuit until you find the break(s).
  4. It was worth a shot. Next stop, the thermal fuse, on Hatari fans these are simply zip-tied to the windings and are relatively easy (ok awfully fiddly) to replace.
  5. Didn't Nikola Tesla have a line on that? @Mike45 it's time to check each wire. You have two issues and I suspect the problems are related, chewed wire perhaps. The only way to be sure is to get out your trusty ohm-meter (or bulb and battery). You have one light functioning so I suggest starting with getting the other one working, it's only two wires after all, what could possibly go wrong?
  6. These guys, every little hardware store, Lotus's etc. etc have them:-
  7. Assuming it has worked in the past and you've not messed with the connections. With the power off, cut off, strip and re-make all those connections, also in the other (working) light and at the doorbell itself. Use nice new choc-blok connectors, they are really cheap and bad ones can cause all sorts of issues. It's possible that the cable is broken (eaten) somewhere which would be your next port of call if when it still functions not.
  8. There's certainly nothing in the electrical regulations. Do you own or are you renting? Best bet would be to get the condo preferred "chang" (handyperson) or contractor to do the job to their requirements, then it can't be "wrong". In reality your biggest issue will be to safely attach the fan to the structure, a couple of self-tappers in the suspended ceiling won't cut it.
  9. The US - Canada match was actually pretty good cricket. And no tornado interruptions.
  10. My first thought was "excellent movie and soundtrack". Maybe I'm showing my age! My second thought was "Tommy who?"
  11. For humour go here: - https://aseannow.com/forum/20-jokes-puzzles-and-riddles-make-my-day/
  12. It's worth telling us just how you intend using your solar energy. Assuming you will mine crypto:- Mine only during the day with a small energy storage system to bridge over those dull patches, adjusting your consumption to match production. Mine during the day and top-up the generation using the grid during the dull patches. Mine 24/7 using a large energy storage system. Mine 24/7 using the grid as your energy storage by spinning the meter backwards (becoming increasingly naughty). Mine 24/7 using the grid as your energy storage by going on the official export tariffs. Something else (please let us know) .
  13. It's worth noting what can happen if you have an un-permitted grid-tie system.
  14. I'm only 65, but various bits are failing or falling off, sadly most can't be replaced using parts off Lazada 😞 Yeah, I don't do ladders and heavy lifting and I need optical assistance (use the phone camera to even read the instructions that come with some kit), but I have family to do the stuff I can't.
  15. Actually, WD40 isn't a particularly good lubricant for the sintered bearings found in most of these fans. A light machine oil (Singer sewing machine oil) applied with a syringe (possibly with a big-bore needle for accuracy) is far better.
  16. Many of us, particularly those to be found in these forums, actually enjoy doing stuff like this (my wife does the gardening and I hate working on cars mind). Each to his own of course, but one wonders why you are even looking here 🙂
  17. It does sound like the motor has been defective from day one. Fan motors (and other bits) for various Hatari fans are available on Lazada, the most complex part of the repair will be finding the exactly correct one.
  18. A political post has been removed. I know it was tongue-in-cheek, and I agree 100%, but our members will use any excuse ...
  19. OS? Browser? Can you post a screenshot of what you are seeing please?
  20. it's AC, it matters not 🙂
  21. For off-grid anything goes, PEA don't care coz you're not connected to their grid. But then you are going to need a considerable amount of energy storage (batteries) even if you only mine during the day (when the sun goes behind a cloud).
  22. Here we go with the numbers for May.
  23. A system that size is way outside what is DIY-able and if grid-tie will definitely need industrial-strength permitting. 60kW is going to be about 140 x 450W panels.
  24. Get it in writing, particularly if your contractor is moonlighting. Don't forget, in order to authorise a grid-tie system you need to use approved equipment and an approved installer.
