This is just my opinion... There are 2 Applications folders. One is the shared folder directly in the Macintosh HD root, another is in usr/username subfolder. When you install applications, you are sometimes asked if you're installing for every user on the Mac (then it puts it into root, main Applications folder), or only for your user (in which case it'll put it in your personal Applications folder). My take is that you probably have the link pointing to your personal Applications folder rather than the main one. In Finder properties, remove Applications from the list, then add it again. That might point to the correct one. Alternatively, if you're OK to have Applications folder in the dock, drag the correct Applications folder into the dock near the Trash, and "show as icon". Clicking on it will open the correct Apps folder and you can then select the application to run. To open that folder (say to uninstall application), just click on "Open in Finder" at the bottom of that list. Another alternative is to use launch pad, the colourful boxes icon (used to have a rocket on the icon), which shows up an iPad like interface to launch apps available in the Mac. Not sure if this is of any help.

If you go to Macintosh HD (or whatever you call the main boot disk of MacOS), and then open Applications folder in there, is there anything there? Or do you just use Applications from the left side menu in Finder? Ideally it should point to same folder, but just asking...

Japanese started wearing masks whenever they were sick, to lower chances of infecting others. Thais did follow, and it was customary in the offices for those sick to have masks on, to help lower the spread of germs. With pollution on increase, getting worse and longer lasting each year, it seems, the masks are also worn when the air quality outside is dreadful like right now. This used to last a month or so a decade ago, but we're up to probably to 6-7 months in a year now. Wearing masks is also about showing respect for others, making others more comfortable with you. By not doing it, especially when others do, shows total disrespect to them, in their country, so you should not be surprised the only reason you are tolerated here is because of the money westerners are seen as bringing in. Otherwise you're about as loved as middle-eastern illegal migrant in Europe. Lastly, masks and condoms are working in the same manner. They minimise chances of you infecting others, and to some level others infecting you, especially with some disease that has no immediate symptoms. Neither is mandatory. So why are you wearing those? Or in your words "when will this madness stop?"

Can crypto end world hunger and solve the 1% problem?
tomazbodner replied to onebaht's topic in Cryptocurrency News
This idea doesn't take into consideration that you need a sizeable electric grid to drive all those number crunching machines. Currently bitcoin mining uses more electricity than many countries in total. To move 99% of population on your crypto, you'd need 100s of nuclear or thousands of gas/coal/hydro/etc. powerplants. I guess there is an interest from 99% of the poorest to invest trillions of dollars (in real money, not crypto) to build the power plants? That other 1% can shut down any attempt at doing that. Unless you have a trillion in your pocket. With that you can probably end global hunger by yourself. -
The official at the khet stated specifically that I (as PR) can only be entered into blue book, and a foreigner without PR can only be entered into yellow book. Of course you could have district offices that have no clue and make mistakes, but you should not be able to get entered in there, as for that you need to provide red police book (Alien Registration) and its number must be entered in the form to add you to blue tabien baan. The same information came from both Prachachuen and Bang Kapi.

It's one of those official rules. They are not enforced... until they are. How many of you knew of that forms to register guests a few years back, yet they were in effect for half a century. Never enforced, never checked... until all of a sudden you would be in trouble if you didn't do it. Same can happen here. The Thai ID card used to state it is only valid in province of issuance. The text that you can leave with another document has only been added maybe 5 years back. If you have pink ID - go and read the point 3 at the back.

Rental Exit Strategy
tomazbodner replied to Padthaigoong's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
Well I remember my previous place reporting the foreigner to immigration after he disappeared like that. But he also stole many things from the room, so I don't know whether he was reported because of disappearing without paying the rent, or because he stole stuff. Knew about it because I asked at reception about him since he borrowed quite a lot from me, and after a few months returned nothing... it was a "damaged ATM card and his wife/gf having birthday and he'll pay back blah blah blah" story... So when asking at reception, I was asked what has he done to me, then told me the rest of the story. Saw the <deleted> at Robinson Asoke but was with others, so I didn't want to make a scene. -

Does anyone know 6 TB EXT HDD 3.5'' ADATA HM800
tomazbodner replied to Negita43's topic in IT and Computers
Just realised this was your actual question. I have not. But - I've deconstructed Seagate and Western Digital both 2.5 and 3.5" drives. And Seagate was using SATA3 with an adapter to USB, however WD did not. The drives had USB connector at the back and could not be used as internal drive. I'm talking about external USB connected hard disk drives. If box is from ADATA it is likely SATA drive inside and a converter to USB, since if using WD's USB connected drive, it would identify as WD external drive, in my opinion. Seagate anyway doesn't make hard disks with USB connectors on internal drive. Never opened Toshiba so no idea. But likely from 3rd party it would be SATA drive anyway. -
Does anyone know 6 TB EXT HDD 3.5'' ADATA HM800
tomazbodner replied to Negita43's topic in IT and Computers
ADATA doesn't make hard disks. It should either be WD, Seagate or Toshiba. Latter seems the cheapest, but not much experience with them. Most of my drives are WD and yet to have one die. Seagate just died on me last week, but that's after quite a while. My NAS (Netgear ReadyNAS) is using WD Blue (not Red) drives and has been running for a long time. Another QNAP is using SSDs (ADATA) with 3.5" adapters. I do have all of them on UPS, as I have faced data corruption on abrupt power failure before. -
Maybe. But go around the World and ask 1 million people what Pattaya's reputation is... Actually I went to Pattaya in 1994, completely unaware of the place and loved it (turns out I wasn't actually in Pattaya but more or less Sattahip, in some private weekend houses resort) anyway... at that time, with very limited internet, I had no idea what the place was famous for. Until I was reading a newspaper (you know, these things that used to exist... the paper version of news section of this forum without discussion board), of the problems with Brazilian prostitutes in Rimini in Italy. After describing police catching these women and putting them on the planes, just for them to be back a week later, and describing in details of how they were chasing them down the beach, I noticed the headline "Rimini, the Pattaya of the West" ... I'd bet there are some nice restaurants or shops in Patpong as well... but posting "I went to Patpong and it was aweeeesssssoooommmmmeeeeee!" is likely going to get people think of only one thing. About the same with Pattaya.

Advice on how to look for a furnished flat for couple mos?
tomazbodner replied to whomever's topic in Bangkok
I was in similar situation when arranging place for my parents, but eventually picked one from AirBnB which had daily and monthly rates. Ended up about 18k/month including all the utilities (water, electricity, etc.). I was looking for 4 months. Most other places wanted 1 year contract and 3 months deposit (2 months+1 month forward). -
Where in BKK can i sell my iPhone 13 Pro max
tomazbodner replied to AlexRRR's topic in Apple Products
Not sure if that's still so, but in the old days MBK sellers would only offer half of what they can sell it for. So for example they can sell it for 30k, they would offer 15k. A very lousy deal. Try kaidee or some other classifieds site, if you live in condo maybe there's Urbanice app, post it in there, etc. But basically try to sell it without middle-man or you stand to lose a lot. But if you don't care how much you get for it, then go to MBK or Pantip or some market selling second hand phones, and see what you get for it. From Houk and Bank (I think it's not Bank and Houk) Apple shop, your phone would be worth around 30-35k now that 14 is out, second hand and still in warranty. I know those selling for 30-35k for 128 GB model, below a year old but with AppleCare included. Was tempted... but don't like number 13. Too many 13s in my life already. -
In our condo it's severe penalties for smoking (anything) in the building. Juristic reminds everyone in app and by sticking notices in all lifts at least once a month (probably when someone ignores them). Not paying the fines (which are 5000 baht per time), would have water and power cut in the room and equates not paying maintenance fees. All proceeds of fines are going to charity. Our building committee approved that and vast majority of unit owners approve of it, given the vote in the app. If your condo doesn't have such policy - bring it up with committee and juristic.

Selling a House Privately
tomazbodner replied to 33 RPM's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
ddproperty and hipflat come to mind. That's where I was checking when buying a condo and they had many different types of properties for sale and rent. -
Did you use VPN? Logged in from different computers? Lazada will require verification when they believe that your account could be compromised. If using same computer for some days after that, and verifications are successful, it will stop asking. Same for payment if card is stored in system - if it's considered unusual hour for you to be shopping, it'll ask for OTP, and will continue asking several times before it stops if activity is no longer suspicious. At least that's been my experience with them.

That ticket that allows you to change date for 2000 baht fee is a flexible ticket. There are several types of tickets, though: - so called saver tickets, which are the cheapest, allow no changes, and are completely non-refundable - then you have flexible tickets, which usually allow changes of dates, but not destinations, and could or could not be refunded. There's several kinds of these, from cheaper and more restrictive to more expensive and fully open (meaning changing date with no fees, sometimes even route - there could be a difference in fare to pay still). Flexible tickets are valid for a year from date of issue (there is "not valid before" and "not valid after" date included on them). Most flexible tickets can be expensive.
