I was quoted 100k to remove a hemorrhoid. Outrageous.
superal replied to advancebooking's topic in Health and Medicine
A quick Google search shows the UK operation in a private hospital at around 2500 pounds Sterling or 117,000 baht . Thai hospitals charge way over the top . -
Update . The promised pay out time of 12 30 pm did not happen . So I waited for a couple of hours but still nothing . So I managed to talk to one of their reps who actually called me within 2 minutes of me inquiring . He said that the delay was caused by the time it takes to do the conversion from Sterling to Baht . I told him " don't b/s me , I can do it in 1 minute " , though he would cut me off for swearing but no . I told him that I am going to look for and use another transfer company . He was not too bothered . I said I am finishing this conversation and he said " thanks for talking to us and have a nice day " . Money arrived in my BBK in 1 hour later . Are there other money transfer companies to use in Thailand that can do quick transfers at competitive rates ? Because normally I let my funds run low , knowing that I can get money via Wise in an instant but I can no longer rely on them and to continue using them means forward planning . Pain in the axx

Hi , we have had a similar conversation on this topic before . Can you please advise how to satisfy that a visitor can convince all concerned with the application , that they will leave the UK at the end of the permitted stay . I ask this because my lady was refused a tourist visa on the grounds that they believed she would not return to Thailand .

I have used Wise for 14 years here in Thailand . I have recommended them to many others . Always give 10/10 on their customer satisfaction surveys . However over the last 3 days they have , on one occasion , not made my transfer after 24 hours , so I cancelled and made a fresh transfer for slightly less money . When filling out the transfer form they said you money should arrive in seconds but no it did not . Got an email from them saying they had received my money from my bank and that was it . So I tracked the transfer and it told me it would pay out at a given time which was 6 hours after the initial transfer . Normally I get the money in 1 minute and can access from an ATM straight away . I am used to the instant transfer but this latest event means some forward planning ahead to get funds transferred . Anyone else having the same experience as me ?

New Tax Rules for Expats in Thailand Spark Concern
superal replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I am being pedantic but true . To be on the safe side 6 months and 2 weeks not in Thailand . 179 days is under 6 months and I guarantee that the Thai authorities will do everything they can to make you pay . So no cutting it too fine , me thinks . -
I was quoted 100k to remove a hemorrhoid. Outrageous.

Update . I reported earlier about the cost of the procedure called Rezum that is a water therapy to shrink an enlarged prostate . The Thai hospitals start at 220,000 baht . It is available in the UK at 117,000 baht , so nearly half of the price . All for a 20 minute non invasive treatment and go home the same day . Outrageous or what ? -
Strangely , my Wizz tv is now back on . However they have not replied to my email . I got a message from gmail saying it was not deliverable and that the mailbox may be closed down .

Outrageous is true . My own recent experience with Thai Bangkok hospital prices is similar . E.G. A procedure called Resume water therapy treatment for an enlarged prostate , quote 220,000 baht is the lowest fee quoted for the procedure plus pre op consultation fees. The procedure takes only 15 minutes ( a follow up 1 week later for removal of a catheter if fitted ) and is not surgery as such , only some injections of steam . Maybe these high prices are made for patients with insurance to pay the fees . -
Thanks for your message ( the only one so far ) . I did email Wizz TV asking if their service had been blocked but till now I have not received a reply . Using these pirate companies seems to be the only option to watch UK TV . Unless you know better .
-
That I quoted was in Surin , Issan . 25k baht seems very cheap in comparison to other Thai prices . Do you have a link to the Hua Hin dentists please ?
-
My Wizz TV has stopped working on the live TV but the movies and Youtube are working . Anyone else have the same problem ?
-
Dentistry seems expensive globally . The UK is a prime example . I paid 130 pounds 2 years ago for 1 extraction . Today UK people are pulling out their own teeth using pliers because there are no NHS dentists available and going private is very expensive . Some Thai dentists , away from the big cities , are very reasonable ( 40k for 1 implant + the crown at 10K ) . India is known to be much cheaper , even factoring in the flight and hotel .

One dead, 30 injured in Singapore Airlines emergency landing
superal replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I have seen recommended by doctors , to avoid DVT on long haul flights . 1/ Take a baby aspirin to thin your blood , prior to the flight . ( Sheryl's opinion / endorsement is welcomed ) 2/ Exercises for your legs can be done when seated and belted . Yes , walking around for 1 minute every hour was also stated but will put you at risk from turbulence events . Even normal ( scary ) turbulence can cause you to fall through loss of balance . -

British Tourist Dies in Tragic Jet Ski Accident in Phuket
superal replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
Life jackets should be compulsory when using water ski or jet ski . At high speed , if you come off and hit the water , it hurts and can cause internal injuries or even knock you out . Also alcohol should be avoided when taking part in water sports . -
One dead, 30 injured in Singapore Airlines emergency landing

I had a similar experience 35 years ago , flying out of Logan Airport Boston USA . When we took off the sky was blue on one side but black on the other . After 20 minutes drinks were served and I had a whiskey . All of a sudden the plane dropped like a stone . My drink disappeared behind me and in the aisle was the stewardess laid down and holding on the the trolley . At the same time a big American guy sat in front of me shouted out " Holy xxxxing xxit , were going down " . I was terrified and when it all settled down I asked the stewardess if that was the worse turbulence that she had experienced . She said no , there was an event where the food trolley hit the ceiling . I was once a nervous flyer but I find that a couple of beers negates that plus helps me sleep . Sear belt , always have it on and not loose . If on a long haul flight and there are empty seats it is possible to lay out ( 4 seats in a row ) . If wearing a blanket I always place the seat belt outside of the blanket so that the flight attendants do not bother to check if I am wearing the belt under the blanket and waking me up . -

Bangkok authorities crack down on vapes, raiding stores
superal replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
So banning the vape is to protect and take care of children ? Have the authorities considered banning motor bikes , electric scooters etc for use by children ? Not even a crash helmet needed . If they really cared there would be a good government school education not just a cover up by poorly qualified teachers teaching a low standard curriculum that ends up with education diplomas not worth the paper they are written on . How about the regulation of decent school meals ? Some might say that it could be that tobacco companies have lobbied the Thai government to ban vapes because of the loss of revenue from tobacco sales . Likewise with cannabis . Top scientists have said that vaping is far less harmful than tobacco but Thailand knows better . I have seen many Thais vaping in the open and police look the other way but look out if you are a foreigner and seen vaping because you represent an easy target for big fines . -
I tried Germany & France . Both connections were about 60 Mbps down . Turned off S/S and got 240 Mbps . I have already followed the S/S tech instructions and changed / tried various combinations of protocol and DNS , made no improvement . Uninstalled and reinstalled S/S , cleared cache etc and was able to connect with W/H . However connecting to W/H is one thing but the slow speeds mean that there is no reaction to my trying to use it as I just get the revolving circle . However this morning I was able to use the W/H site . The strange thing is , that all the times of the football games kick off times are shown in the Thai region time ( i.e. 02 00 am for a UK kick off of 20 00 hrs ) which means they must know I am not in the UK ? Laptop is HP Chromebook 11MK G9 EE processor is MediaTek MT8183 . 1 year old

My internet speed is always low on the weekend . I guess all the kids are playing online . Today a speed test using both Fast and Ookla showed only 2 or 3 mbps when connected to the UK via Surfshark . I manage to open W/H but the site would not carry out any actions ( just a revolving circle ) . Came off the W/H site and disconnected S/S and my speed tests were 260 mbps down and 100 up . So the main problem seems to be S/S . BTW my protocol is Wireguard . What gets me is that all the well known VPN companies claim to be able to access W/H and people are buying the VPNs on that propaganda . A previous reply from Nong Chok is interesting where Cyber Ghost is recommended . I may give it a try . Thanks again for your interesting replies

Advanced Member 2.7k Posted 22 hours ago (edited) Did you complain to WH, or inform Surfshark that one, or all, of their UK servers have been blacklisted by WH? You should not tell WH anything about what you are doing. Chances are, somewhere deep in the fine print of their T's & C's, there is a clause you can only use their website, thus place a bet, only from inside the UK, or possibly the EU, which might change after Brexit. The fact that it's geoblocked tells me there's a fair chance of this. If you were to have a big win, they might not pay out if you have corresponded with them about betting on their website from overseas. I have been paid out on a couple of occasions , both times around 150 pounds on consecutive days . At the moment I can still access W/H although my 3BB connection lets me down sometimes and the W/H site will not perform all instructions or open all aspects . Speed test shows on average 60 Mbps d/load but I am paying for a V.I.P. service that guarantees 200 Mbps minimum . 3BB techs visit my home and try many speed tests but cannot achieve 200mbps . Then the last tech used his I phone to show 1000 Mbps speed not connected to my wifi . He must of thought I would believe that . Told him to go . Trouble is that where I live there are no other providers . I mentioned before about using a sim router which my friend uses in the UK at a very much reduced cost ( bar the cost of the Archer 600 router ). Your opinion please , as you seem to have a lot of knowledge . Thanks for your interesting replies to date .

Man drowns after getting caught in a rip at Kata Noi Beach
superal replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
You are right . I should have said " almost non tidal " as the tides are hardly noticeable in most of the med, 20-30 cm tides are common .I had many holidays in the Balerics where the sea levels appear to be constant . -
Man drowns after getting caught in a rip at Kata Noi Beach
superal replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
Many Europeans come to Thailand for the beautiful beaches . The tourists are probably used to swimming in the much safer non tidal Mediterranean . Not only are there rip tides in Thai waters but further out there can be whirlpools which are deadly unless you know what to do and are a very strong swimmer . In my 12 plus years in Thailand I have never swam in the sea because of the dangers . I even remember beach vendors taking down red flags because they would not get customers . We are now nearing the season for box jelly fish which can be fatal . Also sea snakes and other venomous fish along with coral that can cut your skin and will give you an infection . There are also sharks and barracuda in some Thai waters . I stick to the hotel swimming pools . Very few Thai beaches have life guards . -
Gasping For Air: Thai Passengers React to Engine Mishap
superal replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The flight maintenance schedule above does not give consideration to the distance travelled per flight . What I am getting at is e.g. a medium flight time of say 5 hours will have taken off and landed , ( this is when most of the controls are being used ), much less than a domestic flight of say 1 hour . Indeed these short haul flights turn around is 30 minutes or less . On the go most of the day . I believe the pilot has to do a visual check after every landing . So it can make 500 short haul flights without maintenance ? Does not sound right to me . Not so long ago Thai Air were almost banned from the UK because of poor aircraft maintenance . One could be forgiven for thinking that all active aircraft had an engineers check after every flight or at least once a day . -
Really . How does that work ? I can only use the delivery companies tracker app
