Pension company incompetence?
BritManToo replied to NotEinstein's topic in UK & Europe Topics and Events
I was contacted last year by a former pension company I had transferred out of many years back. Essentially the letter said they owe me 4000 pounds that they had underpaid when I made the transfer. I didn't question them, just gave my bank account, and a few days later had free money. -
You think a product made from minced mystery meat is superior to an unprocessed cut of chicken?

Pension company incompetence?
BritManToo replied to NotEinstein's topic in UK & Europe Topics and Events
They are required to do an identity check on you, this is generally done by a credit check on your UK bank, or UK address. Without this check they won't pay out, and they have no way to do this check with someone who has neither. -

Mortgage for Thai Citizen
BritManToo replied to TimLMT's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
All Thai banks offer mortgages to Thai citizens with real employment. The 'real employment' is usually the problem, if the bank can't see evidence of 6 months wages, they won't give you a mortgage. -
I just had a Zinger Burger 69bht ......... could have had 5 for the price of that V8 burger. Some people have more money than sense.

This was a mistake I also made. But luckily my Brit wife taught me (during divorce) only to care about me ...... me me me me me. Nobody else matters! A few years back someone told me 'you're not a good person', my reply was I never claimed to be anything but bad.

10% of Thais Engage in Heavy Drinking, Report Finds
BritManToo replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
You don't need to keep away, you just need to refuse to engage. I've always avoided the locals and neighbours wherever I lived. -
Do Thai women make the best wives?
BritManToo replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I think it's more to do with the laws of the land than anything. When allowed to take and move on, they will. When provided with free government money and fake jobs, they won't need a husband. Never get married in a country that forces you to endow her with all your worldly goods plus 19 years of child support, enforced by the courts. -
Historic Levels of Diversity in UK Parliament: A Deliberate Effort
BritManToo replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Using diversity and proportional representation as ideals .......... For every rich MP, we should have 99 poor MPs. ...... but they're all rich, and only really represent the rich ............ -
So if I assume all women that will sleep with me are 'gold diggers', then I must hate women? To be honest I wouldn't sleep with me either, without some financial inducement. As for women that I don't want to sleep with ........ why would I even speak to them? Obviously I'm polite to everyone, male or female, but I don't really want to waste my time and will disengage ASAP.

I never tip, and the restaurants I frequent in Chiang Mai always seem happy that my pal and I eat and drink there. They also remember our orders and always seem happy to see us. If they want higher wages, that's between them and their employer, not my business.

half-Thai child moving to Thailand with Thai mom
BritManToo replied to JimmyB81's topic in Family and Children
I think you're worrying about the wrong things. The house is gone, the kid is probably also gone (or will be soon). But 19 years child maintenance is not gone, and a real worry in the UK. And her willingness to tell tales of 'drunkenness and cruelty' (Sunny Afternoon) to the court/police is also not gone. Sorry if you find my comments a bit cynical, but nearly all the expats posting on this forum have seen this game played out time and again, not only on us, but on our pals. Protecting yourself comes first. As for Thai schools, I've had a daughter go all the way through Thai government school and university, no problems at all, and a son age 12 currently in Thai government school (CEP = Chinese and English Programme) doing very well with no problems at trivial cost (8kbht/term). Good luck whatever happens! -
half-Thai child moving to Thailand with Thai mom
BritManToo replied to JimmyB81's topic in Family and Children
This is a great story, Thai lady has grown up kids from different fathers. Gets married to another guy last year. You have a baby with her while she's still married and spent all your savings building her a house on her father's land (amazing fast build). And she's already moved onto another guy. That's a tight timeline! Especially considering how long it takes to set up IVF (4 months plus). But you feel she's a very trustworthy and moral person? -

half-Thai child moving to Thailand with Thai mom
BritManToo replied to JimmyB81's topic in Family and Children
She knows that too, she was decieving you, it's a common strategy to delay the foreigner without actually saying no. You can't trust anything she says! -
I get up at dawn because the rabbits demand freedom of the garden, and as I'm already up and the weather is perfect, might as well go cycling for 25km.

What makes life in Thailand still so great?
BritManToo replied to BangkokBernie's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I used to hike or trail run nearly every day (when I was a few years younger). Hiking and cycling around Chiang Mai is exceptional. There's at least two western orientated free hiking groups if you don't know the trails. I'm still cycling 25km nearly every day, and the weather most mornings is amazing. -
Shocking surge: Thai electricity tariffs set to spark debate
BritManToo replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
No, it's complete nonsense, the poster you quoted was using a UK website calculating output using average UK sunshine hours. -
For those of you who have lived here for years?
BritManToo replied to Hummin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
But that's just you, A few years back I had no problems hiking/jogging/cycling through the jungle/mountains all day. Now I'm reduced to cycling 25-45km/day but at home the doors and windows are all open all day, every day.
