Can we still afford to shop at Thai supermarkets?
BritManToo replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News Headlines
Western food isn't any more expensive if you cook from basic ingredients. I hardly ever eat Thai food, just don't like the taste. Price rises ......... M&Ms, now 26bht a packet in BigC/7-11 ......... 21bht/packet in Makro, but you have to buy 6. -

No way to measure the OP from the inverter ..... only a naff graph, so I've just added a power meter. 7 panels isn't giving me enough to ensure a fully charged battery, so I've another one coming. -

Haier are a lot cheaper through Lazada from the Haier official store. I bought mine there and paid a local guy to fit it. It replaced a Samsung AC that lasted less than 6 years. Avoid Samsung, everything they have made recently is extremely unreliable. -

Supermarkets in the UK are bargain shopping. Supermarkets in Thailand are luxury shopping. Many foreigners never discover the difference. But most supermarket items are half the price online or in local markets. -

Cheap as chips still relevant. I buy my chips frozen from Makro, the price varies 99bht/2Kg-135bht/2Kg. Same product & manufacturer, huge price swings, been like this the past 7 years. When it's 99bht/2Kg, I fill up the freezer, when it's 135bht/2Kg I wait ............ Me and my boy eat chips nearly every day! -

Turn a light on when your grid power is out. If it comes on, you ain't protected. -
Don't think too much! The number of my pals 'just working one more year' to make sure they had enough then died without ever having more than their yearly holidays is astounding.

Why worry about the future? It may all end in nuclear war tomorrow.

Don't tell them you've ever been outside the UK. Claim online using a VPN and your invitation code. Use a UK bank account (they don't ask your address). Takes about 5 mins to answer all the questions, don't answer any of them in a way that 'creates difficulties'. I was worried they would pay me 6 months late after reading stories on here. But apparently that delay is only for people daft enough to admit to living overseas. I was paid on exactly the date I was supposed to be paid.

Not entirely sure what you expect someone in their mid 60s+ to do? I just sit around drinking/reading/listening to music/watching TV/posting on forums and doing nothing much while waiting to die, it's a fine occupation. Maybe you think I should be finding a cure for cancer?
