They've not checked I live at my UK address for the past 13 years. Still on the NHS register with my local doctor, he hasn't checked. The DVLC didn't check my address when I applied for a new UK driving licence (2014). The passport office didn't check when I renewed my Brit passport (2016). The bank didn't check my address when I applied and received a new credit card (2016). I passed a credit check at that address (2020), used to confirm my identity. The DWP didn't check my address when I claimed my state pension (2021).

Usual American obsessing about buying insurance even though he's broke. Just spend your money on more important things and accept death when it comes for you.

Avoid Investing In Thailand
BritManToo replied to Banana7's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
If they weren't bothered by Myanmar (next door), why would you expect them to care about Russia (half the world away)? -
None of it matters, as long as the silliness to re-enter Thailand is around, I won't be flying anywhere. (Thai pass, PCR tests, worthless COVID insurance, risk of expensive hospital stay).

Problems with wise
BritManToo replied to sirineou's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I do an instant bank transfer from my UK bank acc (phone app). Then a transfer from my Wise acc (phone app) to my BKB acc. -
Much of my house is off grid now. No more worries about people seeing my meter spin, it's at a dead stop most of the time.

Problems with wise

Our Wise account? I thought these were single name accounts? Why would they want a photo of your wife holding a document? I had to do a verification when I opened the account. Think it was a photo of my passport and 3BB bill. Did a transfer this morning (65Kbht) at 8am, arrived in my BKB account this afternoon at 2pm marked 'Foreign transfer' Best not to let all your money run out. I keep 10 months living expenses in my Thai bank account, and just top up every month. No point in living on the edge ....... especially if there's a war about to start. -
My first marriage lasted from 1978 until 2009 and the cause of the divorce was 99.9% her fault. Unless you count 'being a little dull' a good reason to divorce a guy.

I don't live in a tourist resort. The locals (including the police) assume I can do anything I like, same as them. And my extension of stay doesn't specifically prohibit me from working.

I would certainly never publish 'selfies' of myself on Facebook doing anything questionable. But apart from that, if nobody's around, anything goes. Was out in the road cutting up box steel, welding and drilling last week. Nobody cared.

Friends of drowned Thai TV actress face more questioning

Unless you've disabled GPS/location history on your phone, Google location services track your every movement and record it. https://myactivity.google.com/activitycontrols -
I'm certain Thailand is better than where I came from (for spending my pension). Knew lots of pensioners back in the UK pre-2009, none of them were having the fun I'm having, and I doubt anything has got better for them since then..

What to choose?
BritManToo replied to Confuscious's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Seems unlikely, Most pricing is driven by what the locals can afford to buy (not what items cost to produce). No point in having shops full of products/produce the local Thais can't afford. Went to my local market last Sunday. Everything was the same price as last year, strawberries, yellow curry, bananas, apples. Ginger was 1/2 the price of last year. My mortgage repayments are 2Kbht/month cheaper than last year. When times are hard, usually everything gets cheaper. -

No worse a war criminal than Maggie Thatcher (Falklands) or Tony Blair (Iraq and Kosovo). -
Ordered a COD item 10 minutes ago (solar panel 3,400bht), no problems. But I understand if you refuse delivery of a COD item without 'just cause' Lazada remove your ability to order COD for a while.

I'd applaud if they bombed my former wife.
