  1. No need. Just wait 9 months.
  2. The 150,000 Baht quoted was just for probate by the law firm. Executor/s simply give the law firm instructions and ensure that the will is carried out as stated and are unlikely to posess the legal knowledge to go through the probate process - whether in Thailand or a western country.
  3. Another big consideration; is not just getting the Thai will drawn up and the cost for that. I was quoted 5,000 Baht to draw up Thai will with English translation. Sounds good right? BUT, and it's a big one, what is the cost to execute that will on one's demise? The well known law firm in Pattaya that I met with, told me that their fee on my death would be 150,000 Baht! Ouch! And, that does not include the costs for their work in transferring assetts such as my condominium or vehicle. It does not include the costs on dealing with the Thai bank either to release account funds to those named in the will. I'm still looking for best option. Much easier if you know you're going to die soon (can deal with personally in advance of death) but a problem if sudden, unexpected, death.
  4. Can't go wrong with TP-Link Archer MR-600 4G Router. I've used them for a few years. All you need is a sim card with unlimited data and you're good to go. Jib Online offer good service. https://www.jib.co.th/web/product/readProduct/47340/2358/ROUTER-WITH-SIM-CARD-SLOT--เราเตอร์ใส่ซิมการ์ด--TP-LINK-ARCHER-MR600---4G--CAT6-AC1200-WIRELESS-DUAL-BAND-GIGABIT-ROUTER
  5. Glad I left DTAC a couple of years ago. Post-pay on AIS has been excellent. Sad that the merger of TRUE/DTAC will mean less competition and choice for consumers. Expect prices to rise.
  6. Never heard of him.
  7. A sad story with likely life changing injuries. Glad to see she's now got the financial help required. I read the story but could see nothing about why she was not insured. Did she have an insurance policy or not? Only that she "didn't have insurance for repatriation". All of the travel insurance I've ever used over the last 30 years has had repatriation as cover. It also said she did "not to read the small print on her "dream holiday".". Or maybe the insurer refused cover because of the small print? Here's some small print from a travel policy I just took out. As it was New Year's Eve, maybe the insurer used the Alcohol exclusion to deny cover? Who knows, but it serves as a warning for all of us who like a drink when travelling. No mention of what quantity "too much alcohol" is.
  8. @Alphim - As you have property overseas in South Africa then check whether or not you'll need a will from that country too.
  9. I've met John from Isaan Lawyers a few times. He is a British lawyer/solicitor. My understanding is that he is intending to open an office in Pattaya at some point (if not already).
  10. A faster service with communication email on receipt, processing, issuance and despatch. That would remove anxiety of not knowing when passport will be received or if it was even being processed.
  11. Thanks to OP for the post. I use AIS mobile and often as a hotspot. A few things: Who even uses port 25 these days? Surely 587 (with TLS) is the accepted outgoing SMTP best option? Also, for incoming IMAP then port 993 SSL/TLS is the one to use. My understanding is that both are encrypted - mine using TLSV1.3. Or am I wrong? If the ISP can do MITM then can they read encypted emails? Also, port 80 is surely redundant now as most websites/servers are forced to use HTTPS 443. Or am I missing something on that? Port 443 is encrypted for sure so how can an intercept decrypt the data packets? Many web browsers will block unsecured requests to port 80 anyhow.
  12. Up to £8.25 per year for a British passport seems quite reasonable. Many I know would gladly pay a little more to get a better service. I've never had to renew a British passport from Bangkok so don't know what that costs. Anyone?
  13. Just renewed mine by myself in Bangkok. 4 week wait for an appointment. On the day all done in less than 90 minutes. Don't see why an agent is required unless they can shorten wait time dramatically. Should not take and long if first time application vs renewal assuming applicant already has a foreign licence that they will accept.
  14. Was waiting for that comment. Surprised it took such a long time.
  15. Other than the above suggestions; just go and start camping on the land. The owner will soon find you!
  16. Hua Hin to/from Singapore would be an excellent route for connections to other parts of Asia and to Australia. Could bring many travellers.
  17. Just about everything is cheaper except for imported western foods that can be found in places such as Villa Market, luxury imported goods, wine and luxury vehicles. Anything locally produced and/or involving mostly labour will be cheaper due to the lower costs of employing staff. Add to this, a huge number of workers and small businesses that are outside of any taxation, keeps prices low. This all makes for a much better cost of living for foreign expats, retirees, tourists and digital nomads. Cost are likely part of the reason that most here on the forum love Thailand so much.
  18. Seems they don't like international crime because foreign criminals are cleverer and better than Thai criminals and that's simply not allowed as it makes Thailand look bad! <deleted> get a grip lads (generals) and effectively police all crime no matter how minor and stop the corrupt payoffs. That would be good start!
  19. Surely now the art piece Buffalo is more unique and has greater value. More paying visitors coming to witness the farang induced damage?
  20. Never leave money in a hotel safe. It's just not safe and very hard (impossible) to prove your loss. Many staff have access to the room and know the overide combination to the safe - that's if the default has even been changed. The hotel workers will usually take a percentage of the cash but rarely ever the whole lot as it would immediately be noticed. I stayed at a hotel in Hua Hin a few years ago that had warnings on their reviews about money being taken from room safes. I set a test one day and locked the empty safe putting some items in front in a particular order. When I came back in the evening, the items were moved and the safe was actually left open.
  21. Maybe the Thai government got wind of numbers of cancellations from airlines and hotels.
  22. Just a thought; has the OP's friend actually been to the Land Department and asked them what they require and the procedure? Might be a good place to start.
  23. Surely the Thais could raise more revenue from the Chinese by implementing an enforced qurantine at the traveler's expense - as they did with all other Covid positive arrivals until relaxation of testing. The Thais are missing a trick here! Welcome with "open arms" even if you have Covid Kon Chine!!!
  24. Did Anutin & Co. attend in person and welcome the first wave of Farangs after covid measures were eased? Chinese rule!
  25. Reap what you sow! Anutin & Thailand! Next up we'll see TAT announcing "tourist arrivals lower than expected" in 2023 due to new covid restrictions. Why surprised at this <deleted> show?
